I showered after breakfast and waited to speak with him, but he left lunch and postponed our conversation for several hours until dinner time arrived. I don't know what was more important than coming to see me because, let's be realistic, we're in the middle of nowhere and we can't even use a phone.
I couldn't help but wonder if there were others here, though I hadn't heard or seen anyone else.
When the door opened and he brought in the dinner, I was determined to make him listen.
"Can we talk? I know what you want."
"Do you intend to give it to me?" His eyes twinkled with amusement, but he also looked at me in a way that made me even more nervous.
"Yes," I replied without hesitation.
It was natural that I didn't hesitate. Given the choice between the phone or freedom, I would, of course, choose my freedom over everything else. I also didn't need a phone if it went days on end without ringing even once.
"Alright, I want to verify we're talking about the same thing."
"Here," I extended my cell phone to him.
"There's no signal here; even if I needed it, I couldn't call anyone. Why would I want it?"
"But... but I... I thought this was it," I started to cry, wiping my tears because my vision was blurry from them, and looked at him again – I didn't bring anything else but this, sir.
"You brought more, but I will not speak with you while you're crying. I'll come back at breakfast tomorrow. Try to get some sleep."
I started to scream for him to come back, to talk, and to end this, but he did not. He left me there, locked in with my useless phone.
I pondered over the matter, checking the clothes I'd taken off to wear pyjamas that didn't belong to me as mine had once again disappeared. They were my size but much smaller than what I usually wear. He surely entered at some point while I was sleeping or bathing to leave me these clothes.
The room temperature was moderate, neither cold nor hot, but the bed was still well-covered. I got into the bed and fell asleep. This time, a little more at ease that he wouldn't enter to murder me because if he had wanted to kill me, he would have done it by now and thrown me into the sea.
In the morning, I woke up, changed out of my pyjamas in the bathroom, and put on clothes that also weren't mine. A long flowery dress down to my ankles matched with flat sandals. I was comfortable and nothing was showing. The underwear provided for me was too revealing, and the bra was too small because it crept into places where the sun didn't shine on me, and I normally wore something with double the fabric in the worst case.
He entered as calm as usual with a breakfast tray in his hands. He closed the door behind him and approached me. I just moved back, frightened.
He walked to the door, locked it, and pocketed the key while sitting cross-legged on the bed.
"If you want to talk, sit here," he patted the bed beside him.
"I'm fine standing."
"If you don't sit down, I'll leave, and we can talk tomorrow. Decide quickly," he glanced at his watch.
Being near him terrified me, but I had no choice but to sit down to finally resolve this matter and return to my life.
"Do you now know what I want?" excitement was evident in his voice and in that chilling gaze.
"I brought nothing but my clothes and phone. You have the clothes, and you didn't accept the phone when I offered it. I’ll tell you the unlock pattern," I said, moving to retrieve it from the nightstand on the other side of the bed.
"I didn't say you could get up, and I've told you, your phone is of no use to me. Besides, getting the unlock pattern from you isn't necessary; there are easy ways to bypass it."
"Then what do you want?"
"You will listen attentively and consider each word I say without interrupting. I'll leave, and you'll think about it to give me an answer. Do you understand?"
"Yes, sir."
His demeanor was stern and his voice authoritative; I had no choice but to comply with his command because I didn't want to see him angry and risk provoking him.
