Episode 10

I awoke again, this time feeling improved and the room no longer spun.

I tried to rise from the bed where I found myself but my feet were bound, and my hands handcuffed to the frame. I looked over myself but nothing else seemed amiss; my clothes were on, except for my sneakers which were missing.

Attempting to free my hands from the cuffs only brought pain.

"HELP!"

"HELP! SOMEBODY, PLEASE HELP ME!"

I screamed as many times as I could until my voice came out hoarse and distorted. All I could do was cry and blame myself for having opened the door to those policemen.

There were two nightstands; on one lay a white rose, and on the other, a red rose rested.

I felt helpless, kidnapped by this person with no one searching for me, wondering what would happen to me. At least my clothes were untouched and the only pain I felt was in my wrists.

Hearing footsteps, the door soon opened. I saw who approached and I was frozen with fear. A tall, muscular man, broad-shouldered, dressed entirely in black and wearing a ski mask that obscured his face, stood before me.

His lips curled into a slight smile and his eyes watched me. Those eyes were cold, a steely blue or grey that terrified me. He had a gaze too intense for me to meet.

"It looks like you're awake. I've been waiting for this moment" his voice was masculine but soft and calm.

"Who are you? Why am I here? You must have the wrong person."

"Little one, I assure you there's no mistake here" he showed his teeth when he smiled, finding the situation amusing.

"I have nothing valuable and my family has no money, I'm certain you've got the wrong person. Please let me go, I won't even tell the police."

"You have something that belongs to me and you're not leaving here until I get it. When you've calmed down, we'll talk. Later, I'll bring you dinner."

Left alone again, I wept uncontrollably, wondering over and over what I did to deserve this; but more importantly, what could I possibly possess of value for this stranger?

I couldn't sleep even if I tried; I had to get free because in my pocket was my cellphone, maybe by chance I could call the real police, they would trace my location and rescue me.

Visualizing a different door than the one the lunatic had used, I assumed it led to the bathroom, so I started yelling for the man to return and allow me to use the facilities. From there, I hope to make my call.

The door opened again and the madman appeared.

"Do you need something?"

"I need to go to the bathroom, please."

"I'll unshackle your hands but don't attempt anything foolish or you'll end up urinating with my assistance, and only when I permit it. Do you understand?"

"Yes, sir."

I remained motionless as he unlocked the handcuffs. He stepped away from me and stood by the room's doorway. I sat up and untied my legs, hurried to the bathroom, and closed the door, but there was no lock.

I took out my phone but there was no signal. I searched every corner, extending my arm in hopes of finding one, but nothing, it was impossible to use it.

"If you're trying to call for help, I'm sorry to spoil your plans, but you won't get any signal no matter how much you look for it" his voice sounded amused as it remained soft and calm.

Frustrated, I left the bathroom, and he left the room, locking me in again.

I dropped onto the bed and wept from fear, anger, and powerlessness. Now, who knows what this madman would do to me.

I sensed a light swaying and stood to peer through a small window. What I saw left me dumbfounded. There was only water. Nothing but the sea, with no land in sight, no distant island. I could discern nothing but water.

I was on a ship, clearly modern and likely very costly, with no phone signal, abducted by an unknown man without knowing what he wanted in exchange for my freedom.
