But dread fills me when I see his satchel on the workbench.

Phoebe

(Father doesn't go anywhere without that satchel. Where is he?)

I walk to the window and pull the curtains back, peering out at the street.

Phoebe

(Why can't I shake this terrible feeling?)

A floorboard creaks, and I turn towards the door.

Phoebe

Father? Is that you?

Glass flashes through the air as something crashes through the study window.

It lands with a dull thud on the floor.

I shriek and stumble backward, clinging to the door frame.

A creature crouches on all fours before me.

Bloodshot eyes peer through filthy bangs as its fingers dig grooves into the floor.

Phoebe

(What is that?! Is it human?!)

Dark liquid covers it's hands and lips.

Phoebe

(Is that blood?!)

Something in the creature's face sparks a memory.

Phoebe

(Wait, I know this person!)

Phoebe

(He's the apple Seller ! What happened to him?!)

The creature growls bares it's sharp teeth before lunging at me.
