Father,. I'm home!

I push the front door open, expecting father to greet me as usual.

Instead, the front hall is dark.

My voice echoes strangely, and I shiver.

Phoebe

(Why are the lights out?)

Father? Are you here?

Phoebe

Is there something wrong with the lights?

I set my basket on the ground and rush down the hall

The door is shut, with no light peeking through.

I hesitate at the threshold.

Phoebe

(Father wouldn't like it if I entered his study without his permission.)

Phoebe

(Perhaps I should check elsewhere in the house.)

Phoebe

(I'll check the basement first.)
