Continuation of the chapter 3.

The Lord Jesus said to them, « Surely, you will quote this proverb to me, ‘Physician, heal yourself !’ And you will tell me, ‘Do here in your hometown what we have heard that You did in Capernaum.

And The Lord continued to speak, looking at everybody « Truly I tell you, no prophet is accepted in his hometown. I assure you that there were many widows in Israel in Elijah’s time, when the sky was shut for three and a half year and there was a severe famine throughout the land. Yet Elijah was sent to any of them, but to a widow in Zarephath in the region of Sidon. And they were many in Israel with leprosy in the time of Elisha the prophet, yet not one of them were cleansed, only Naaman the Syrian. »

All the people in the synagogue were furious when they heard this ; they got up, drove Him out of the town and took Him to the brow of the hill on which the town was built. They wanted to throw Him off the cliff but the Lord Jesus walked right through the crowd and went on His way.

Then He went down to Caupernaum, a beautiful town in Galilee and on the Sabbath’s day, the Lord taught the people. People were amazed at His teaching ; His words had authority.

And that day, in the synagogue, was a man possessed by a demon, an impure spirit. The man cried out of the top of his voice, « Go away ! What do You want with us, Jesus of Nazareth ? Have You come to destroy us ?

...I know who You are—the Holy One of God ! »...

« Be quiet ! » the Lord said sternly « Come out of him! » and at the second, the demon heard His order, he threw the man down before them all and came out without injuring him. People were amazed and looked at each other, saying «What words these are! With authority and power He gives orders to impure spirit and they come out ! »

And the news about the Lord spread throughout the surrounding area.

John the Baptist’s disciples follow Lord Jesus :

The next day, John was there again with two of his disciples. When he saw the Lord passing by, he said « Look, the Lamb of God! »

The two disciples looked at the Lord Jesus and when they heard him say this, they followed The Lord.

Lord Jesus turned around, and noticed the two man following Him, He asked ; « What do you want ? ». They said « Rabbi. » ( which means « Teacher ») « where are You staying ? »

« Come, » He replied « and you will see. »

So they followed Him and went where the Lord was staying ; the two disciples then spent the day with Him.

Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, was one of the two who heard what John had said and who had followed the Lord ; the first thing Andrew did was to find his brother Simon and tell him, « We have found the Messiah » (that’s, the Christ). before he brought his brother to Lord Jesus.

When they came, the Lord looked at Simon and said, « You are Simon son of John. You will be called Cephas. »
