Chapter 3 : The Lord is tested in the wilderness.

(Note : you can listen to “My God” from the Sister Act movie while reading)

After being baptized, the Lord Jesus, full of Holy Spirit, left the Jordan. The Holy Spirit led Him into the wilderness where the Lord was going to be tempted by the devil. And for 40 days, He ate nothing, fasting only.

After 40 days and 40 nights fasting ; He got hungry.

So the tempter appeared to the Lord, for he knew he was hungry and he was going to tempt Him.

the devil said to the Lord showing stones ; “If You are the Son of God, tell this stone to become breads.”

Lord Jesus answered “Is it written : Man shall not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the Lord.”

the devil unhappy, led the Lord up to a high place and showed Himin an instant all the kingdoms of the world. And he said to the Lord “i will give You all their authority and splendor ; it has been given to me, and i can give it to anyone i want to. If You worship me, it will all be Yours.”

Lord Jesus answered with faith ; “Is it written : Worship the Lord, Your God and serve Him only.”

And again, the devil led the Lord to the Holy City (Jerusalem) and had Him stand on the highest point of the temple “If You are the Son of God, throw Yourself down here. For is it written;

He (God) will command His angels concerning You,

to guard You carefully;

they will lift You up in their hands,

so that You will not strike Your foot against a stone.”

And Lord Jesus shouted ; “Away from Me, satan “ and answered one last time “For it is also written “Do not put your the Lord your God to the test.”

And with his defeat, the devil left.

Lord Jesus returned to Galilee in the power of the Spirit, and news about Him spread through the whole countryside. He was teaching in their synagogues and everyone praised Him, amazed by his teachings. He went to Nazareth, where He had been brought up, and on the Sabbath’s day, he went into the synagogue as was His custom. He stood up to read, and the scroll of the prophet Isaiah was handed to Him. He unrolled it and found the place where it is written.

...“The Spirit of the Lord is on me,...

...because He has anointed Me...

...to proclaim good news to the poor. ...

...He has sent Me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners...

...and recovery of sight for the blind to set the oppressed free,...

...to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.”...

Then the Lord Jesus rolled up the scroll, gave it back to the attendant and sat down. Everybody’s eyes were fastened on Him. He began saying to them ; “Today this scripture is fulfilled in your hearing.”

All the people spoke well of Lord Jesus and were amazed at the gracious words that came from His lips. “Isn’t this Joseph’s Son ?” They asked…

(Note : Even the Lord was tempted not only you ! You are not alone in this battle, for God is with you, He loves you ! He is with you like He was with the Lord and still is ! Lord Jesus overcame the temptation so have faith you can overcame it as well ! God was with Jesus all the days of His life on Earth and God is with you as well dear reader ! If you are being tempted one day, don’t worry it’s not against you and you aren’t the only being tempted on earth because we are all tempted and it’s a common battle for everyone but let’s fight together to overcome evil ! And temptation is a test and God, the Lord Jesus know you can do it ;) !)
