Chapter 2 : John prepares the Way

Before starting to read this chapter, I invite you to read John 1:1-15.

The beginning of the good news about Jesus the Messiah, the Son of God, as it is written in Isaiah the prophet ;

...I will send my messenger ahead of you,...

...who will prepare your way. ...

...A voice of one calling in the wilderness,...

...prepare the Way for the Lord,...

...make straight path for Him....

...Every valley shall be filled in,...

...every mountain and hill made low. ...

...The crooked roads shall become straight,...

...the rough ways smooth. ...

...And all people will see God’s salvation. ...

And in those days, a man of the Loving God, John the Baptist came, preaching in the wilderness of Judea and saying, “Repent for the kingdom of heaven has come near.”

His clothes were made of camel’s hair, and he wore a leather belt around his waist. His foods was locusts and wild honey.

People went out to John from Jerusalem and all Judea and as well the whole region of the Jordan ; they would confess their sins and be baptized by him in the Jordan River.

But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming to where he was baptizing, John said to them : “You brood of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the coming wrath ? Produce fruit in keeping with repentance. And do not think you can say to yourself, “We have Abraham as our father”.

I tell you that out of these stones the Living God can raise up children for Abraham.

The ax is already at the root of the trees, and every tree that do not produce good fruit will be cut down and thrown into fire.”

“What should we do then ? Then asked the crown. John answered “Anyone who has two shirts should share with the one who has none, and anyone who has food should do the same.” And among the crown, there was some tax collectors who also came to be baptized, they called John “Teacher” they looked at him and asked “what should we do ?” John looked at them back and answered “Don’t collect any more than you are required to.” And even some soldiers asked him the same question, he told them “Don’t extort money and don’t accuse people falsely, be content with your pay.”

Those who were listening to him, wondered in their heart if John the Baptist might possibly be the Messiah, John said to them ; “I baptize you with water for repentance. But after me comes One who is more powerful than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. His winnowing fork is in His hand, and He will clear His threshing floor, gathering His wheat into the barn and burning up the chaff with unquenchable fire.”

And with many other words, John the Baptist exhorted the people and proclaimed to everyone the good news. But when he rebuked about Herod the tetrarch because of his marriage to Herodoas, his brother’s wife, and all the other evil things he had done, Herod decided to lock John up in prison.

And at that time, the Lord Jesus came from Nazareth to Galilee to be baptized by John in the Jordan but when he saw the Lord, he tried to deter Him, saying “I need to be baptized by You, and do You come to me ?” The Lord replied “Let it be so now ; it’s proper for us to do this to fulfill all righteousness.” and John consented to His words ; He baptized the Lord Jesus. And just as He came up out of the water, the Lord saw heaven being torn open and the Spirit of God descending on Him like a dove.

A voice came out from heaven, saying ;

...“You are My Son, whom I love ; with You I am well pleased.”...

And with these caring words and so on the same day, the Lord Jesus and the crown were all baptized.
