The Entrance Examination

The adventurer’s guild had a branch in our city so I visited there to join so I can take care of my family from shadow whenever needed. For now, I needed to join the guild. I wore the mask and stepped in the guild and found that this place was like a palace, a place of luxury. I went to the registration counter and asked for registry.

“Kid you cannot survive in this guild, you might be of wooden rank.” “I don’t care I will go on with proper evaluation.”

“Ok then fill this form.”

“Wait” someone shouted from the stairs.

Slowly a person came down from his cabin and asked me whether Simon had sent me. I nodded.

“Good, come behind me.”

I followed him till he took me to an practice arena where many people who came for recruitment were waiting. Far aside I saw a kid of my age, he wore spectacles and had brown eyes, he wore a cap so I could not see his hair. I went and sat beside him.

“Hi”

“Hello”

“What’s your name?”

“Ahjeel”

“What a weird name. My name is Gray.” I lied to keep an alias. He kept staring at my wooden sword for some reason.

“Want to see?” “Yes, please.”

I handed my wooden sword to him and somehow to transformed into a pure white blade.

“Wow, in my hands it becomes black!”

“Yeah, it becomes white in hands of the creators descendants.”

“Wait, you were in the auction house competing against my family before Arthur interrupted.”

“Yeah, it is masterpiece of my father.”

“Ahjeel, no need for test you are silver third stage.” Instructor said.

Many people were shocked that he was silver third stage without giving exam.

“What is the silver third stage?”

“In guild they determine our power in form of stages.” “What about wood stage?”

“haha, it is for normal humans.”

“Explain it to me.”

“What about someone who goes beyond gold 3?”

“Hey masked guy it is your turn.” Instructor called me.

“I want to test him myself.” The guild master came back.

“Nobody is able to survive your first strike.” Instructor complained. “I will hold back quite a bit.”

“No need to hold back.” I said with giving a sharp glare. “What is your mana level”

“Broken.”

“haha, and you want me to go against you with full power?” “Don’t worry I will only slash your right hand won’t kill you.

“How kind of you. Against people who are going to kill you it will become your weakness.”

“Don’t consider my kindness as my weakness. The beast in me is sleeping not dead.”

“Good guts, lets see what you are made up of.”

We entered the arena and took our position, hundred meters away.

As the match began the ground started to shake. Electricity started to form around him which meant his nature of mana is lightning.

I had no chance of dodging if he came head on and that what he did. He passed by me in an instance. I saw everybody gasping.

“Kid what’s your name?” “Gray.”

“Good, I will never forget your name.” and his sword shattered in thousand pieces.

“What happened sir?” instructor asked guild master as he was leaving the arena.

“Kid you are silver third stage.” He said before leaving. “Gray what happened?”

“I am not sure either. It was too fast for me to remember.” “You can do something fast but cannot remember?”

We both chuckled while I tried to use my sharp sense to hear what happened. Guild master headed back in his cabin and called the vice guild master and asked him to prepare someone to spy on me.

“What did you see when you tested him?”

“He is a monster. He did not move an inch before my blade was few millimeters away from his mask. But suddenly his sword went faster than what I could see and I almost lost my right hand.”

“What? You are gold second stage. Does that mean he is gold 3?”

“No maybe above it. His power can be compared with a beast of stage 2. One level before beast king, but why can’t we find the beast king?”

“Nobody knows where he is after disappearing six years ago.”

“Shhhh, someone is spying on us.” Guild master found out so I took my powers back.

“Gray what are you doing?”

“Nothing, only thinking about what I did was necessary? It will attract many people.”

“Yeah, I know.”

As we were leaving someone defeated an instructor with fire power and was just a year older than us. He got promoted to silver third rank too. His face resembled someone that I cannot remember right now.

I went with Ahjeel to the front desk to receive our membership cards. We went to the silver board, where all the task regarding silver ranked people were placed. The rewards were silver coins too.

I looked around and found a job suitable for me. It was escorting someone from a city to another. I did not need to work much and I would get 25 silvers. Ahjeel took a job about repairing something so we parted our ways. As soon as I registered they told me they were about to leave in few minutes and they were on the other side of the town.

I had no time to spare I rushed as fast as I could and luckily I reached there in time.

“You are late.” A girl said who was sitting in the front seat of the car.

For a split of second I disappeared from their sights and then appeared with a bunch of thieves and traps.

“What is this?”

“I cleared the road to that city. Now only your payment is left.” I said.

“Why should I believe you? And payment is done when I reach that city and I want to reach there today evening.”

“Ok.”

“Sit in the back seat with the other two escorts.” “No I want to do some exercise.”

“Stop acting tough in front of me.”

“Lets see if I am bluff or not.”

“If you are bluffing then you will not receive any reward.”

“If I am not bluffing then you will pay me twice the reward.” “Deal”

They started driving slowly at first which was walking for me. Then they started to pick up the pace to the speed of hundreds of kilometer per hour.

The girl was peeping through the window to find me but could not see me anywhere. She asked the driver to stop to pick me up and tease me. The driver stopped the car and was about to make a Uturn but the car was not turning.

“Why are taking a Uturn?” I asked to tease the girl.

“You? How are you here? You aren’t even sweating. What are you?”

“Why do you want to talk with me so much when the other guards are trying to communicate with you? Are you mad at them for some reason?”

“Ignoring people doesn’t mean I’m mad at them. It means that they are not really important and not worth my time.”

“How old are you?” “The same age as you.”

“You are a magician then why do you need escorts?”

“My power is of a tracker, I am good in tracking people but cannot fight.”

“Enough talking, I will clear the road ahead and wait at the outskirt of that city, bye.”

I rushed and cleared the path by removing other gang who recently came to capture her. Her car reached the outskirt at night and she gave me note for guild to increase my pay by 50 silver coins. I returned her the paper and asked about a favor she could do for me.

“Don’t get ahead of yourself and except the money.” “I am asking you because you are a tracker.”

“Oh, whom would you like to track?”

“Not whom but what.”

“Meaning?”

“The Golden Lotus.”

“Ok I will try my best.”

“bye” I greeted and returned to the guild to report about my job.

“We still did not get a call that your work is done and wouldn’t it take you another day to come back from that city?”

“It is not my fault for being fast is it.”

“Don’t lie.”

A call came up and the lady frowned at the call and apologized to me for don’t know how many times. Then she paid me 50 silver coins.

“Aren’t you making a mistake?” I asked.

“No the client asked me to increase your pay by two folds.”

I took the money and went to the auction house and uncle gave me a secret room to live in and I could make an excuse to home that I was somewhere on quest and I won’t need to go in normal form.

The next day I took a quest of scouting a forest which was supposed to be monster free but somehow it was reported a monster of stage 6.

“Destiny what is your stage right now?”

“Master I am stage 5.”

“You can take care of him right?”

“Is it a question you are asking out of curiosity to see me beaten?” “No”

“Then you should know that I am a stage above it and I can kill it using my left claws.”

“Then let’s go.”

We left for the forest and scouted it completely but could not find any monster, but I found a group of slave traders who had caught a small girl. Which reminded of my younger sister. I could not control my anger and slashed everyone there to free the girl.

“Why did you save me.” The girl asked me while trying to stop her tears.

“Weren’t you in danger?”

“I don’t mean that. I am an elf then why?”

I removed the headband which covered her ears. They were really long and point as in written in stories.

“Is it necessary that human should hate elves?”

“Don’t know but brother says that all humans are bad.” “Do you know where your house is?”

She nodded and pointed in the deepest part of the woods but I could not find anything there when I scouted. To make her feel better I took her in the direction where she pointed and it was an unfortunate encounter with a dark elf.

“Hand her over to me.”

“Why does a dark elf want her.”

“It is not a matter of you humans.” “When I saved her it became my matter.”

“Then be ready to face the consequences” he said and shot three arrows dipped in deadly poison.

I caught all of them but he disappeared from where he was and appeared behind me with daggers. I dodged a fatal wound but it cut my skin from my left hand.

“He is a stage 2 monster” destiny said.

“Shouldn’t I be the same as him as said by the guild master?”

“You misinterpreted. He meant if your mana core was not broken.” “Crap I am dead.”

I tried to dodge his attacks and blocked when I could not dodge. He did not seem to slow down a bit and inflicted wounds one after another.

I had no option but to use dragon force stage 1. The time stopped and I loved this moment where I could do anything to opponents in few seconds.

I walked near the dark elf and tried to stab him but he broke free and dodged my fatal attack and lost a hand.

“Use stage 2 or you will die.” Destiny shouted.

It was something of big decision whether lose mana core to extreme level or die. I chose to lose mana core by extreme wound. Dragon force stage 2 activated forcefully. My hair grew long by a meter and it color changed from silver to pure white, my eyes turned into eyes of dragon. They were yellow with a long vertical line of black.

“Just changing your form won’t help you.” Dark elf laughed and came to kill me with thousands of wind blades.

I moved my hand horizontally in a speed of a normal human while he threw those blades on me. The wind obstructed vision of everybody there. After a while when we could see, we saw that I slashed entire forest off along with the dark elf and many elves were fallen on the ground.

“Who are you all?”

“We were here to help the princess but you took care of her for us thank you. Now we will take her back to the kingdom.”

“Wait, I accidently took her mana while transformation.” I touched her back and attracted the mana from the surrounding and replenished her but I went in my normal human form soon after.

When I woke up, I saw that I was in a tree house and the princess was sitting on a chair beside my bed but sleeping by keeping her head on the bed.

I was healed completely but I did not know where I was. Destiny came beside me and said that it had been a month since you fell unconscious. The elf king wrote a letter to your mother about something and today your mother wrote the message back allowing you to stay in the kingdom of elves.

“How does mom know the king of elves?” “Have no idea.”

“Fine I am feeling sore so let me go for a walk.”

“Let me show you around.” The princess said while yawning. “How should I address you?”

“My name is Emily.”

“Lets go”

We went out I saw that many people were giving evil glare towards me. I saw few kid elves playing. It felt a warmth to see that there was a place where some species were living in peace.

“Hey what are you laughing at human?” a small elf asked.

“Nothing, I am just happy that you all are living in peace.”

“liar you are just trying to boast that you became a student of the king.” “Wait, when did I become a student?”

“Today” princess smiled as she clinged at my shoulder.

“I challenge you, weak human. If you win against me then you can become a student of the king or else you need to withdraw from your discipleship.”

“fine by me.”

“Start” he said and rushed at me.

To show mercy I just knocked him unconscious by hitting him in the medulla.

“Take care of him” I said to the bunch of kids along with him.

“The king is asking for your presence in the party today.” a guard elf said and handed me an invitation.

That night when I entered the party it was just like a normal human party but elves still gave me a glare that gave me feeling of anxiety. Instead of looking at anyone I started to eat food so that I will feel a bit free.

The king then asked me to go in a chamber with one of her sister. I listened to him. The elf remove my top clothe and started some kind of mana sequence and it started to burn in every pore of my body. It was as if I was put in fire without mana cloak.

The next day when I woke up I realized that I could move more freely and my mana core was repaired a bit and I could use mana again but not as effectively as before. I needed the golden lotus to completely recover.

As I was about to go to find Emily, but she came to wake me up. “When did you become an early riser?” she asked.

“Before meeting you.” I chuckled and she led us to breakfast table.

The king asked me to come for a spar match to determine my power. He took out his sword and tried to stab me without a warning and it was at an unbelievable speed but my wooden sword reacted and I blocked it easily. In a blink of an eye we exchanged thousands of moves.

At last I lost and accepted the elf king as my teacher. Along with that I got a new rival, the son of elf king who hated humans more than any blood thirsty fiend.
