The breakup was still the talk of campus. Sipping her latte, she made her way to homeroom and slipped into her usual seat at the back, pulling out her laptop.
The golden boy walked in, as always the center of attention. Olivia scoffed and took another sip of her latte.
Is being that perfect even legal? she thought. Maybe not—since he wasn’t in jail.
Their eyes met for a split second. He flashed her that signature smile. Olivia frowned and looked away immediately.
Stacy dropped into the seat next to her.
“Hey… did golden boy just wink at you?”
Olivia tugged her hoodie lower. “You must be seeing things, Stace.”
“I don’t think I am,” Stacy said with a cheeky grin.
“Well, keep quiet. The lecture’s about to start.”
Adrian, on the other hand, was glued to his phone, refreshing his Cupid Connect messages every few minutes.
“Dang, Adrian, why are you this bothered?” he muttered under his breath.
Eventually, he shut off his phone and tried to focus on the lecture—tries being the keyword. His mind kept drifting back to Cupid.
Across the room, Olivia sipped her iced latte, half-asleep and pretending to pay attention.
“Ugh, I feel like crap,” she muttered.
“Not my fault you spent all night talking to your secret boyfriend,” Stacy teased with a pout. “You won’t even tell me who he is.”
“Secret boyfriend?” Olivia nearly choked on her drink. “I do not have a secret boyfriend.”
“Then who were you texting?” Stacy pressed.
“A friend,” Olivia said flatly.
“Olivia, we both know you don’t have friends,” Stacy teased.
“What makes you say that?” Olivia shot back.
“I’ve known you since we were kids, darling,” Stacy said, smirking.
Olivia groaned, pulling her hoodie lower over her face. She risked a quick glance across the room—right into Adrian’s eyes. She looked away immediately, sinking deeper into her seat and taking a slow sip of her latte like nothing happened.
When the lecture ended, Olivia headed to the library and found a quiet spot. She didn’t have any classes for a while, so she pulled out her laptop, opened Cupid Connect, and checked her DMs.
She froze when she saw a new message from Goldenboy:
Goldenboy: Good morning, princess. Dream of me?
Cupid: Me? Dream of you? Never. That’d be a nightmare.
She held her breath, surprised when he replied instantly:
Goldenboy: Just had to shoot the arrow, Cupid.
Cupid: That’s what I do—to help you find your true love.
Goldenboy: Have you found yours?
Cupid: Coaches don’t play.
Goldenboy: Well, they do now.
Cupid: Don’t you have a lecture?
Goldenboy: I see we’ve reached the stalking stage.
Olivia laughed softly.
Cupid: Don’t get cocky now. I’m not stalking you—I asked a question.
Goldenboy: Well, then I should reply.
Goldenboy: Yes, madam. I have an ongoing lecture right now.
Cupid: You should probably pay attention.
Goldenboy: How could I… when you’re the only thing I can think about?
Cupid: Well, you better pay attention, Romeo.
Goldenboy: Then maybe you could be my Juliet.
Cupid: They had a tragic ending.
Goldenboy: Ours could be different.
Cupid: It could.
Olivia stared at her response, wondering if she’d completely lost her mind.
Goldenboy: It really could.
Cupid: Bye, Romeo. Pay attention to your lecture.
Goldenboy: Bye, Juliet. I’ll try to.
Leaning back in her chair, her thoughts were all over the place. She’d never flirted with a client before—what the hell was that?
She let out a long breath, trying to shake it off. “It’s fine,” she told herself, shutting her laptop. “Totally fine.”
