Olivia Carter hated Mondays.

But there she was, sitting behind her desk, hoodie cap pulled low, iced latte in hand, on a freezing November morning. Her laptop glowed in front of her as her fingers flew across the keyboard.

Her DMs were flooded—again—with anonymous messages.

All from people trying to find their true love.

> Blessyou#23: Cupid, I think I’m falling for Isabella.

Cupid: Bro, if you’re not popular, don’t shoot your shot—or you won’t be scoring. But go ahead if you wanna be embarrassed.

Olivia smirked. Problem solved.

What started as a fun test project for her programming class had turned into a full-blown campus obsession. Her anonymous love-matching bot, Cupid Connect, had gone viral overnight.

She never planned for this kind of chaos—now her inbox was a battlefield of broken hearts, desperate crushes, and way too many pickup lines.

Across from her, her best friend Stacy was on the phone, pacing dramatically.

> “Liv, if Walter comes near me one more time, I swear I’ll crash out,” she snapped. “I think he’s stalking me. What a creep.”

Olivia didn’t look up. Same story, different guy.

Two best friends, completely different worlds—Stacy lived for the drama. Olivia avoided it like the plague.

> “You know what,” Stacy sighed, flopping her phone onto the bed, “maybe I should try that new Cupid Connect app everyone’s obsessed with.”

Olivia froze mid-sip, her brown eyes flicking up from the screen.

> “I think you should—it’ll be great,” she said with a forced smile.

> “Don’t you have morning classes?” Stacy asked.

Olivia shrugged, sipping her latte again.

> “I do. But I’m skipping.”

Stacy rolled her eyes.

> “Of course you are. Queen of excuses.”

Olivia grinned.

> “And yet somehow still passing. Don’t question my methods.”

> “How do you do that? I’ll never know,” Stacy muttered.

> “I’m just a genius.”

> “Yeah, right.” Stacy grabbed her bag and headed for the door. “See you, Cupid.”

Olivia froze, her smile fading.

> “What did you—”

but the door has already shut behind her

Ignoring Stacy’s warning, Olivia went right back to work.

After a few more minutes of typing, she decided to head out. Laptop? Packed. Hoodie? On. Iced latte? Non-negotiable.

She made her way to her usual café corner, set up her laptop, and dove into fixing Cupid Connect’s latest round of bugs. The app had been lagging all morning, and Olivia wasn’t about to let her love-struck users suffer.

So focused on her screen, she didn’t even hear the bell above the café door ring.

When she finally looked up—

She swore the light radiating from this guy’s face could’ve blinded her.

Adrian Cross.
