Chapter 9: The Betrayal

As I looked into Tae-Oh's eyes, I felt a surge of emotion. I didn't know what to believe, or who to trust.

Tae-Oh's eyes seemed to bore into my soul, as if searching for something. And then, in an instant, his expression changed.

He smiled, a cold, calculating smile. "I'm sorry, Ji-Hyun," he said, his voice dripping with sarcasm. "I didn't mean for you to get hurt."

I felt a wave of shock wash over me as I realized the truth. Tae-Oh had set us up, using us as pawns in his game against the syndicate.

Yoon-Ah and Joon-Oh were stunned, their eyes wide with shock. "Tae-Oh, how could you?" Yoon-Ah asked, her voice trembling with rage.

Tae-Oh shrugged, his smile growing wider. "I did what I had to do," he said. "And now, it's time for me to take what's mine."

As he spoke, the syndicate's men closed in around us, their guns trained on our heads. I knew that we were beaten, that Tae-Oh had won.

But as I looked into his eyes, I saw something there that gave me hope. A glimmer of doubt, a hint of uncertainty.

"Tae-Oh, don't do this," I said, my voice barely above a whisper. "You're not a monster. You're better than this."

Tae-Oh's smile faltered, and for a moment, I saw a glimmer of the man I had met in the alleyway. The man who had saved my life, who had risked everything to protect me.

But then, his expression hardened, and he turned away. "Take them away," he said, his voice cold and detached.

As the syndicate's men dragged us away, I couldn't help but wonder what had driven Tae-Oh to betray us. What had he hoped to gain, and what had he lost?
