For the past month, Virat had successfully ignored Siya.
It wasn’t difficult. She kept to her space, and he kept to his. Their marriage was just a contract neither of them wanted, and he had made it clear that she would never hold a place in his life.
But after the business deal… something had changed.
He had seen her sharp mind in action, had watched as she solved a problem that his best financial advisors had struggled with.
And now, no matter how much he tried to push her out of his mind, he couldn’t ignore the undeniable truth, Siya was not just a helpless replacement.
She was intelligent, composed… capable.
It was irritating.
Because every time he caught a glimpse of her handling household matters, speaking to the servants with kindness, or simply existing with quiet grace, it unsettled him.
And he hated feeling unsettled.
That night, Virat returned home late, exhausted. The day had been long, filled with back-to-back meetings and an endless stream of negotiations. All he wanted was a glass of whiskey and some silence.
But as he entered the mansion, he sensed something was off.
The house was quieter than usual, except for a faint, soft humming coming from the far side of the hallway.
He followed the sound, his brows furrowing.
The door to his grandfather’s room was slightly ajar, and when he pushed it open, he stopped.
Siya was sitting beside his grandfather, gently pressing a warm cloth to his forehead.
Virat’s breath caught for a second.
His grandfather, Dadaji, was a man of great pride, a pillar of strength in their family. But age had caught up with him, and lately, he had fallen ill.
Devika had ensured that the best doctors were called, that the servants took care of him, but no one in the house truly sat with him.
No one except Siya.
She wasn’t just taking care of him, she was talking to him.

Dadaji, I told you already. If you keep drinking cold water in winter, of course, you’ll fall sick. (she scolded lightly, dipping the cloth in warm water again)

Ah, so you’re scolding an old man now?

I’m just saying… you should take care of yourself. Otherwise, who will tell me all these stories about your childhood mischief?

(He blinked)
Dadaji was smiling. A real smile.
It was rare to see him like this these days.
And then it hit him, Siya had managed to do something that no one else in this house had done.
She had made his grandfather laugh.
Virat didn’t step inside. He simply stood by the door, watching.
There was something… strange about the way Siya looked at Dadaji.
It wasn’t forced. It wasn’t out of obligation.
She cared.
And Virat didn’t know what to do with that realization.
He had been so convinced that Siya was just a burden, a pawn in her family’s schemes. But now, for the first time, he saw something else—
A woman who had warmth in her heart, despite being treated like an outsider.
Something in his chest tightened, but he shook the thought away and left before they noticed him.
