First Morning Of Bahu!
“They wanted her to bow, to break, to accept her place in silence. But Siya was never meant to be tamed.”
Siya woke up to the soft glow of the morning sun filtering through the curtains of her small guest room. The air was cool, and for a brief moment, she allowed herself to believe that today would be different.
But the moment she stepped out of her room, the harsh reality of the Rathore mansion greeted her.
The house was alive with activity—maids bustling about, the faint sound of classical music playing in the background, and the smell of fresh incense filling the air. But as Siya walked through the halls, she felt it again, the coldness, the unspoken rejection.
No one acknowledged her presence.
Not the distant relatives sipping their morning tea, not the house staff who had been instructed to maintain neutrality, and certainly not Devika, who sat regally at the breakfast table, dressed in an elegant beige saree, her sharp gaze fixated on the newspaper in front of her.
Siya inhaled deeply and stepped forward.
Siya Mehta (FL)
Good morning, Maa. (she said softly, addressing Devika with the respect she deserved as the head of the family)
Devika Rathore (Virat’s Mother)
(Devika didn’t even look up)
Devika Rathore (Virat’s Mother)
Who gave you permission to speak? ❄️ (she asked coldly)
Siya’s fingers clenched the edge of her dupatta, but she refused to let the insult sting.
Before she could respond, a deep voice cut through the tension.
Virat Rathore (ML)
I DID!!
Siya turned her head slightly, watching as Virat entered the room, dressed in his crisp business attire, his expression unreadable.
Devika Rathore (Virat’s Mother)
(Devika finally looked up, her face hardening)
Devika Rathore (Virat’s Mother)
Virat, this is our family time. Outsiders shouldn’t interfere. ❄️
Siya Mehta (FL)
(Siya’s jaw tightened, but she remained silent)
Virat Rathore (ML)
(Virat exhaled sharply, rubbing the bridge of his nose)
Virat Rathore (ML)
She’s my wife. Whether we like it or not, she’s part of this family now.
Siya’s heart gave a small, surprised jolt at his words. Not because they were warm, there was no warmth in his tone but because they were a silent acknowledgment of her existence.
She folded the newspaper with calculated slowness and leaned forward.
Devika Rathore (Virat’s Mother)
Wife? (She let out a mocking laugh)
Devika Rathore (Virat’s Mother)
Do you really think a woman forced into our home can ever be my daughter-in-law? This marriage is a mistake, Virat. And you know it.
Virat Rathore (ML)
(Virat remained silent)
Siya Mehta (FL)
(Siya knew she had two choices—stay quiet and let Devika walk over her or stand her ground. And she refused to be a silent victim)
Siya Mehta (FL)
With all due respect, Maa!! (Siya spoke, her voice calm but firm)
Siya Mehta (FL)
A marriage is not just a union of two people but of two families. I understand that I was not your choice, but I am here now.
Siya Mehta (FL)
And whether you accept me or not, I will fulfill all my duties as Virat’s wife and as the bahu (Bride) of this house.
A tense silence followed.
Devika Rathore (Virat’s Mother)
(Devika’s eyes narrowed slightly, as if she hadn’t expected Siya to speak so boldly)
Devika Rathore (Virat’s Mother)
Duties? (she repeated, amusement lacing her tone)
Devika Rathore (Virat’s Mother)
And what exactly do you think those are?
Siya Mehta (FL)
Siya didn’t hesitate.
Siya Mehta (FL)
To take care of this house, to respect my elders, and to ensure the dignity of the Rathore family is never questioned. (Her gaze didn’t waver)
Siya Mehta (FL)
No matter what anyone thinks of me.
Devika Rathore (Virat’s Mother)
L(A flicker of something unreadable crossed Devika’s face before she scoffed)
Devika Rathore (Virat’s Mother)
Big words. Let’s see if you can live up to them.
And with that, she turned back to her newspaper, dismissing Siya’s presence entirely.
Siya knew she hadn’t won anything today.
But she also knew she hadn’t lost.
