Eighth Scene
Miss Nancy
What about these two students?
Mr Kevin
Let them continue the test. It's important after all.
Miss Nancy looked at Ken and Dominic.
Miss Nancy
Both of you continue. A lot of time passed already. We're going to get to the bottom of this, so you better behave yourselves.
Both of the boys sat down to continue.
Miss Nancy and Mr Kevin discussed the incident, and decided to have a talk later on.
The school hours ended, and the students started going home, except for Ken who went to the entrance of the Headmaster's office to eavesdrop.
Mr Kevin
So, Teacher Nancy, what do you think?
Miss Nancy
I was very surprised, Sir. None of the two students would come out as a person who would cheat.
Miss Nancy
Dominic definitely used to perform terribly, but he is the most hardworking student in my class. You yourself were the one who also noticed his improvement and even talked to me about it.
Mr Kevin
You are right. I thought he had great potential, so I was indeed paying attention to him.
Miss Nancy
And for Ken, he's the class topper. He has always been performing well, and never had any behaviour I would punish him for.
Mr Kevin
That is indeed troublesome. You have the cheat sheet, don't you?
Miss Nancy
Yes Sir, I do.
When I looked closely at it, it's not like their handwriting.
Do you think it could be from someone else?
Mr Kevin
But you told me that Ken was involved because Dominic said the paper was his. Could it really be someone else?
Miss Nancy
At this point, it's hard to tell. But we can't just dismiss it. After all, use of unfair means of any form is strictly prohibited. Ignoring it this time could lead to many problems ahead.
Mr Kevin
It affects the students' nature and righteousness as well. Education is not just about the studies, it is all round development.
Mr Kevin
By the way, I noticed.. Ken is left-handed?
Miss Nancy
Yes Sir, he is.
Mr Kevin
Although one can write differently to make the handwriting seem like someone else's, the one on the cheat sheet is way too neat to be written by someone with his non-dominant hand.
Mr Kevin
I have an old friend who is a professional handwriting analyst. He will be able to tell which hand was used, left or right.
Miss Nancy
That is great, Sir!
I have heard before that a lot of left-handers also write in a specific angle which can be detected from the written words.
Do I get both of their test papers, to let the analyst see as well?
Mr Kevin
Yes, do that. It will be useful.
Ken left the place immediately.
Mr Kevin
No, it's nothing. I thought I saw someone out there, going away from the door.
Miss Nancy went to check outside, and returned while frowning.
Miss Nancy
I saw no one outside. But there was the sound of faint footsteps around the corner of the hallway.
Mr Kevin
It's okay, don't mind it. We'll be finding out the culprit soon anyway.
Miss Nancy
Do you already have someone in mind, Sir?
Mr Kevin had a small smile on his face.
