Third Scene
Mrs Dawn, Dominic's mother, is making tea.
Dominic arrives home, and he can be seen wiping his tears.
Mrs Dawn
Dominic, are you crying?
Dominic
Mom! Yesterday while I was studying my friends kept inviting me to play. And even when I told them that I have to study they persistently kept inviting me.
Mrs Dawn
And.... you're crying because of that?
Dominic
I didn't learn my homework, so the teacher punished me.
Mrs Dawn
Why didn't you let me know about it while they were inviting you yesterday? You ended up being punished because you didn't obey your parents.
Dominic
No mom, I was punished for not learning my homework.
Mrs Dawn
Well you listened to your friends, isn't that disobedience?
After all you ended up not learning your homework.
Dominic
That means my friends are bad friends, aren't they mom?
Mrs Dawn
No no, they aren't bad friends. It was your own fault.
Dominic
It wasn't my fault, mom. It was because they invited me.
Mrs Dawn
When your friends invited you, you didn't ask whether us, your parents, allowed it or not. You went in your own accord, which was wrong of you to do so.
Dominic
I'm sorry, mom. Forgive me. I will obey you and dad.
Mrs Dawn
That's my good boy, Dominic. I forgive you.
Dominic's father arrived home in the meantime.
Mr Leon
Dominic, what did you learn at school today?
Dominic
Ask my mom if you want to know.
Dominic proceeded to enter his room.
Mr Leon
Is it not you whom I'm asking? Get over here Dominic.
Dominic came out of the room.
Mrs Dawn
Tell him everything Dominic.
Dominic
I did not learn my homework, and the teacher punished me.
Mr Leon
I see you need to be punished, huh Dominic?!
Mr Leon grabbed a stick immediately.
Dominic
D-dad, my friends tricked me..
Mr Leon
You must've been at fault from the start if you could let your friends trick you.
Dominic
It's not my fault dad! My friends are bad. They were the ones who kept inviting me to play while I was studying.
Mr Leon
You did not tell me nor your mom when it happened, and that's your fault.
Children who wouldn't tell their parents everything are bad children.
Dominic
Dad, forgive me. I will never do it again.
Mr Leon
Fine, that's good.
Dominic
Dad, does God answer all our prayers?
Mr Leon
God helps hard-working people. He answers the prayers of students who study diligently. Just asking for help if you won't even study, how will you expect to be helped? You won't be answered.
Dominic's friends arrived.
Martin
Dominic, let's play again yeah?
Kyle
I even got a new ball.
Dominic
Dad, can I go out to play?
Mr Leon
You can play when it's four and a half this evening.
Dominic
Martin, you guys just play first without me. It's still only 3 p.m. I'm going to study.
His friends left, and Dominic started studying.
