The detective took a step closer,
His eyes never leaving mine.
As if He had been expecting this moment for longer than I had.
We just stood there in the alley, the world around us silent, as if holding its breath.
I could hear my own heartbeat,
Faster now, my grip tightening around the knife.
The hunger was roaring inside me.
But something else... something colder... had started to settle in.
He was no longer just a man watching from the shadows.
He was a part of the hunt.
I took a step back. My mind raced. The streets were empty, but the air felt thick. Heavy.
He tilted his head again, almost like he was amused by my hesitation.
Detective
You don’t know, do you?”
He said, voice low, almost like he was speaking to himself.
Detective
You think you’re the only one hunting.
I felt a chill run down my spine, but I didn’t let it show.
Detective
Let me help you,
He added, a strange sincerity in his voice.
The offer sent a wave of disgust through me. Help?
His gaze deepened, as if he was seeing through me.
Detective
You’re not just running from yourself. You’re running from something deeper.
The hunger twisted inside me, now battling with the sharp desire to end him.
But something inside me… wondered.
Instead, I took a step forward.
The Detective's eye's narrowed
and suddenly the tension between us exploded
Grabbing my wrist before I could rise the knife
His grip was iron, his strength surprising
I twisted, trying to break free
pulling me into an unyielding hold
Detective
You're not the monster you think you're
Detective
But you will be if you keep running
A part of me wanted to fight
Saw the truth in his words
And that terrified me more than anything else
