Chapter 5: Blood and Betrayal
The chaos of the masquerade lingered in the air long after the last rogue vampire had been subdued. The grand hall, once shimmering with opulence, was now a battlefield of shattered glass, torn finery, and crimson stains. Guards swarmed the scene, escorting trembling human students to safety and apprehending the surviving intruders. But Liam’s focus was elsewhere, on Lucian Draevor.
Lucian’s crimson eyes burned with intensity as he pulled Liam aside, away from prying ears. His grip on Liam’s arm was firm but not harsh, his demeanor sharp and commanding.
They slipped through a hidden passageway, the echo of their footsteps the only sound in the narrow corridor.
Finally, Lucian stopped, turning to face Liam.

“What happened back there wasn’t a coincidence.”
He said, his voice low but charged with an urgency that sent a shiver down Liam’s spine.

“I don’t know what you mean."
Liam replied, though the words felt hollow even to him.
Lucian’s jaw tightened.

“Don’t lie to me.”
He snapped.

“The way you moved, the strength you showed, it wasn’t human. You know it, and so do I.”
Liam took a step back, his heart pounding.

“I don’t… I didn’t…”
He stammered, the memory of his instincts taking over still fresh and terrifying.

“Look, I’m not here to accuse you. "
Lucian Draevor (Ml)

"But there’s something about you, something that doesn’t add up."

"And if you want to survive in this world, you need to figure out what it is.”
The mention of survival struck a chord. Liam nodded, his mind racing with questions he didn’t yet have the courage to ask.
The following days were a blur. The attack had shaken the academy, and whispers of rebellion filled the air. Human students grew more wary, while the vampires’ arrogance seemed tinged with unease.
The hierarchy of the school had been rattled, and Liam found himself caught in the middle of it all.
Lucian, however, was unshaken. If anything, the attack seemed to invigorate him. He began seeking Liam out more often, their conversations laced with veiled questions and sharp observations.
Despite the tension between them, there was an undeniable chemistry, a push and pull that neither could fully control.
One night, unable to sleep, Liam wandered the academy grounds. The moon hung low in the sky, its light casting eerie shadows across the cobblestone paths.
He found himself drawn to the library, its ancient doors creaking as he stepped inside.
The scent of old parchment filled the air, and Liam’s eyes scanned the rows of books, searching for answers to questions he couldn’t yet articulate.
His fingers brushed against a dusty tome titled Legends of the Blood Moon.

“Curious choice.”
Came a familiar voice.
Liam turned sharply to see Lucian leaning against the doorframe, his expression unreadable.

“You’re following me now?”
Liam asked, his voice tinged with annoyance.
Lucian smirked, stepping into the room.

“You’re not exactly subtle, Liam. And this...”
He gestured to the book in Liam’s hands.

“isn’t light reading.”
Liam frowned but didn’t put the book down.

“I need answers.”
Lucian’s gaze softened, and for a moment, the sharp edges of his persona seemed to dull.

“So do I,” he admitted, stepping closer."

“The Blood Moon—it’s not just a myth. It’s tied to a prophecy that could change everything for humans and vampires."
Lucian Draevor (Ml)

"And you…”
He paused, his eyes searching Liam’s.

“I think you’re at the center of it.”
Liam opened the book, his hands trembling. The pages were filled with vivid illustrations and cryptic text detailing an ancient prophecy, a human born under the Blood Moon, destined to challenge the balance of power between the two races.
As he read, fragments of his past life flickered in his mind, pieces of a puzzle he hadn’t realized he was solving.

“I don’t want to be part of a prophecy,”
Liam said quietly, his voice heavy with fear and frustration.
Lucian tilted his head, his gaze piercing.

“Whether you want it or not, fate has chosen you."

"The question is, what are you going to do about it?”

The annual masquerade had been the first spark, but the fire was far from extinguished.
The academy, once a fortress of tradition and control, was now a simmering cauldron of tension. Rogue factions of vampires were growing bolder, their attacks more frequent.
And in the shadows, whispers of betrayal spread like a plague.
Lucian and Liam’s relationship became a focal point of this turmoil. To the outside world, their interactions were nothing more than a curious dynamic between a noble and a human.
But beneath the surface, their bond deepened, each encounter peeling back another layer of their defenses.
At the same time, Liam began to uncover more about himself. His abilities, once sporadic and uncontrollable, became sharper with practice.
He moved faster, fought harder, and thought quicker than he ever had before.
Lucian pushed him relentlessly, their sparring sessions turning into lessons that bordered on brutal.

“You’re stronger than you think.”
Lucian said one night after Liam collapsed from exhaustion.

“But strength without control is useless. You need to master this before it masters you.”
Liam looked up at him, sweat dripping down his face.

“Why do you care?”
He asked, his voice raw.
Lucian hesitated, his usual smirk replaced by something softer.

“Because if you fall, we all fall,” he said simply.

The tipping point came during a secret council meeting held by the academy’s vampire nobility.
Liam, hidden in the shadows at Lucian’s insistence, listened as they debated the growing threat of rebellion and the prophecy that loomed over them all.

“The Blood Moon human is a myth."
One elder scoffed.

“And if it isn’t?”
Lucian’s father, Lord Draevor, countered, his voice cold and authoritative.

"You need to decide, Lee."

"Are you going to run from this or face it head on?”
As the council’s voices rose in heated argument, Liam’s mind raced. The prophecy, his abilities, Lucian’s unwavering gaze, it all pointed to one inescapable truth.
But the discussion took a darker turn. A younger council member, eager to prove his loyalty, presented evidence of a human student exhibiting unusual abilities.
A stolen scrap of Liam’s torn clothing from the sparring arena, faintly carrying a residue of energy. The council debated hunting down this human, their words dripping with disdain.
Lucian clenched his fists.

“That’s enough!”
His voice cut through the room like a blade.

“If this human exists, they should be brought under our protection, not hunted like prey.”
Lord Draevor’s sharp gaze turned to his son.

“And you think protection will satisfy our enemies?"

"Or are you merely stalling for reasons you’ve yet to share?”
Liam’s chest tightened as the suspicion in the room thickened. He had to move carefully, or his secret would not only be exposed but become a death sentence.
After the meeting, Lucian confronted him in the shadows of the academy.

"You need to decide what side of this war you’re on, Liam. I can’t shield you forever.”
As the moonlight illuminated Lucian’s face, Liam realized the fragile line they were walking.
The world wasn’t just watching. It was closing in. In its tightening grip, they both had decisions to make that would forever change the balance of power.
