Short Stories: Velvet Desires! (Taekook)
Runaway Bride! #4
Jungkook’s apartment was small but cozy, the kind of place that felt like it had its own beat, like the music that used to pulse through Jungkook’s veins.
Taehyung sat on the couch, legs tucked beneath him, glancing around at the clutter of old records, band posters, and an assortment of instruments strewn about.
Kim Taehyung
I always imagined a rockstar’s apartment to be fancier. (Taehyung joked, flicking a stray guitar pick off the coffee table)
Jungkook leaned against the doorframe, arms crossed, watching him with a slight grin.
Jeon Jungkook (Rider)
This is what happens when you spend all your money on gear and not on furniture.
Kim Taehyung
It has character. (He paused, eyes settling on a vintage microphone in the corner of the room)
Kim Taehyung
You know, I used to dream of being an artist.
Kim Taehyung
A painter, I mean.
Kim Taehyung
But my family was always so set on me following in their footsteps—business, status, all that boring stuff.
Jungkook raised an eyebrow.
Jeon Jungkook (Rider)
I didn’t take you for the artistic type.
Taehyung smiled softly, a hint of sadness in his eyes.
Kim Taehyung
You’d be surprised.
Kim Taehyung
I used to sneak away to sketch, paint, anything to escape the pressure.
Kim Taehyung
But when you’re constantly told what to do, it’s hard to believe in your dreams.
The silence that followed was heavy, and Jungkook stepped closer to the couch, sitting beside him.
Jeon Jungkook (Rider)
My family wasn’t much different. (Jungkook said, his voice quieter than usual)
Jeon Jungkook (Rider)
I was in a rock band back in the day, you know.
Jeon Jungkook (Rider)
We had gigs, fans—everything seemed perfect.
Jeon Jungkook (Rider)
But… it wasn’t.
Jeon Jungkook (Rider)
The band split up because of creative differences, they said.
Jeon Jungkook (Rider)
But really, it was about control. We all wanted different things.
Taehyung turned to look at him, intrigued.
Kim Taehyung
So you just left? Just like that?
Jungkook nodded, a bittersweet smile playing at the corners of his mouth.
Jeon Jungkook (Rider)
Yeah. I realized I wasn’t doing it for me anymore.
Jeon Jungkook (Rider)
I wanted to play my own music, write my own songs, live life on my terms. So I walked away.
Taehyung’s eyes softened.
Kim Taehyung
You really did follow your dreams.
Jeon Jungkook (Rider)
Only after a lot of failure. (Jungkook laughed, rubbing the back of his neck)
Jeon Jungkook (Rider)
But yeah… I learned the hard way.
Jeon Jungkook (Rider)
What about you? Have you ever thought of doing something for yourself, Taehyung?
Taehyung hesitated for a moment, then nodded.
Kim Taehyung
But it’s hard when everyone expects you to be perfect.
Kim Taehyung
I’m not a businessman. I’m just… me.
Kim Taehyung
I want to paint, I want to create, but I don’t even know where to start.
Jungkook looked at him with a mixture of admiration and something else—something deeper.
Jeon Jungkook (Rider)
I think you’re already on your way, Taehyung. You’re living your own story now, aren’t you?
Taehyung smiled, though his eyes were still uncertain.
Kim Taehyung
I guess so. 😊
The moment lingered between them, and for the first time since meeting Jungkook, Taehyung felt like he could breathe.
Maybe, just maybe, they both could have the lives they always dreamed of, without the weight of expectations hanging over them.
Jungkook leaned in closer, his tone soft but teasing.
Jeon Jungkook (Rider)
I know you’ve always wanted to be a painter.
Jeon Jungkook (Rider)
How about I take you to an art supply store tomorrow?
Jeon Jungkook (Rider)
You could start your first project, whatever it is. No pressure.
Taehyung blinked in surprise, then chuckled.
Kim Taehyung
You really want to help me with that?
Jeon Jungkook (Rider)
Of course… (Jungkook said, his voice growing more sincere)
Jeon Jungkook (Rider)
I may not know much about art, but I know you deserve to chase your dreams.
Jeon Jungkook (Rider)
And I’m not going anywhere.
Taehyung felt a warmth spread through him, something he hadn’t realized he needed.
Kim Taehyung
Thanks, Jungkook. 💓
Jeon Jungkook (Rider)
No need to thank me yet. You haven’t seen my amazing art skills. 😌
Kim Taehyung
Oh god, please tell me you’re not going to try to paint something. 😱
Jungkook laughed, nudging Taehyung playfully.
Jeon Jungkook (Rider)
Hey, I’m a creative guy! I’ll surprise you. 😌
The playful banter continued as the evening unfolded, the air between them lighter than it had been since they met.
And though the romantic tension still simmered, Taehyung couldn’t help but feel like something was changing.
Maybe, just maybe, there was a future ahead of them—one where they could both be who they really were, together.
