Operation Pitiful Faces
After a few grueling hours of scrubbing, folding, and organizing, the Seventeen members were starting to regret their little stunt. The punishments were turning out to be way more work than any of them had expected.
In the kitchen, Jeonghan was scrubbing away at the counter, his arms feeling like jelly. Hoshi was rummaging around in the storage closet nearby, organizing supplies while muttering that this would be his last time pulling any stunts. Woozi was carefully going through a list of ingredients for tomorrow’s breakfast, with Mingyu listening closely, trying to remember who had special diet requests. Seungkwan darted around the room, acting as a gopher for everyone. With each passing minute, the frustration and exhaustion were building, and it was clear that morale was sinking fast.
Jeonghan
(muttered under his breath as he scrubbed a particularly stubborn stain off the countertop) Why did we think this would be funny?
Hoshi
(grumbled, emerging from the closet with a new stack of cleaning supplies) Because we’re idiots
Hoshi
But we’re not idiots for long. I’m never going along with one of your plans again.
Woozi
(Barely glancing up from his list) Yeah, sure, this is the last time we’re ‘spying’ on Joshua and coups’s private moments
Woozi
I’m exhausted, and I still have to deal with breakfast for everyone tomorrow. What were we thinking?
Mingyu
I can’t deal with this much work
Seungkwan, who had been darting around, running errands for everyone, wiped his forehead
Seungkwan
You’re all right. I’ve lost track of how many times I’ve had to fetch something for someone. At this rate, I’ll be carrying groceries for the next month
Suddenly, Jeonghan paused. He wiped his brow, staring at the cup of coffee sitting untouched on the table, where Joshua was leisurely sipping away, looking as relaxed as ever.
An idea formed in Jeonghan’s mind. His face lit up, a sly grin creeping onto his lips. He turned to Hoshi, who had been sorting out cleaning supplies.
Jeonghan
(Whispered, leaning in conspiratorially) Hoshi
Jeonghan
Have an idea to get us all out of this punishment and it involves our dear Joshua
Hoshi
(Raised an eyebrow, intrigued) Oh? This sounds interesting. What do you have in mind?
Jeonghan
(Leaning back with a devious grin) We convince Joshua to plead our case to Scoups. He’s our secret weapon. We all know how Scoups is when it comes to Joshua—he’d do anything for him.
Hoshi
(Nodded, his eyes gleaming) Plus, Joshua’s always been the soft one, right? His kind heart will melt when he sees our pitiful faces. Scoups won’t even stand a chance.
Jeonghan
(Grinned) Exactly! But there’s one key element missing.
Jeonghan
We need to get Dino in on this
Jeonghan said, looking over to where Seungkwan was bouncing around in a hyperactive frenzy
Jeonghan
Joshua will never resist the maknae’s face when he’s trying to be all cute and pitiful
Hoshi
(Eyes twinkled with mischief) That’s genius. Dino’s got that sad, puppy-dog face. It’ll definitely melt Joshua’s heart
Jeonghan
(whispered) Seungkwan, go get Dino.
Seungkwan
I’m on it! (he said before dashing off to find Dino)
He first found Vernon, who was cleaning the bathroom, scrubbing away with a defeated look on his face, his hair sticking up in every direction and a toilet scrubber still clutched in his hand. Seungkwan took one look at Vernon’s pitiful appearance and knew he’d be perfect for their plan.
Seungkwan
(whispered urgently)Vernon!
Seungkwan
Quick, we need you in on a plan to save us from all this work!
Vernon’s eyes brightened as he quickly abandoned his scrubbing, and the two of them dashed off to find Dino, who was at the entrance, dusting and polishing everyone’s shoes. Dino looked up as they approached, his brow furrowed in confusion. His clothes were messy and stained with black shoe polish, his sleeves rolled up in a hopeless attempt to stay clean.
Dino
(Asked, glancing between Seungkwan and Vernon) What’s going on?
Seungkwan
We have a plan to get Joshua to talk to Scoups for us
Seungkwan
Jeonghan-hyung thinks Joshua won’t be able to say no if you’re involved. You know how he melts for you!
Dino’s eyes lit up, and he eagerly joined them, leaving the shoes behind as they hurried back to the kitchen.
As the three entered the living room, they passed Jun, who was cleaning the windows with a slightly annoyed expression. Seungkwan quickly filled him in on the plan, and Jun’s expression brightened as he immediately agreed to join in.
Jun
This is going to be good
Next, they spotted DK, who was stuck folding an endless pile of laundry. His face was contorted in misery as he worked through shirt after shirt, but he looked up when he saw the group gathering around him.
Seungkwan
(whispered)DK hyung, we’re planning to get Joshua to talk to Scoups for us
DK
(Eyes widened in relief, and he immediately stopped folding) Yes! Please! I can’t fold another shirt.
The group quickly filled Wonwoo in as well, who had been quietly dusting books in the living room. After hearing the plan, he nodded, eager for an excuse to stop working.
Back in the kitchen, Woozi and Mingyu exchanged looks but decided to stay out of it for the moment. They both observed the group’s antics with cautious curiosity, unsure of how successful this plan would be.
Once everyone was on board, they took a collective breath. It was time to execute their plan
Each member of the group put on their most dejected expressions, hoping to sell their misery to Joshua. They walked over to where Joshua was sitting, his serene figure barely moving as he sipped his coffee. Hoshi took the lead, his face the picture of dramatic exhaustion
Hoshi
Please… we can’t take any more of this. We need your help
Hoshi collapsed dramatically into the chair beside Joshua, his head falling to the table as if he could barely keep his eyes open.
Joshua
(Raised an eyebrow, clearly amused by the spectacle) You know
Joshua
(Suppressing a smirk) you all kind of brought this on yourselves.
Seungkwan
It was just innocent curiosity! We didn’t mean for this to happen
Hoshi
(Looked at Joshua with wide, pleading eyes) We just wanted to have a little fun, and now look at us.
Joshua
(Took a long sip of his coffee, his eyes twinkling as he observed the group)
Just then, The8, who had been quietly painting in the corner, noticed the growing commotion. Seungkwan quickly filled him in on the plan, and The8 nodded with a wicked grin.
THE8
Let’s make this happen
With big, pleading eyes, Vernon stepped forward, holding a toilet scrubber like a prop in a play, his hair still sticking up wildly.
Vernon
(Murmured softly, his voice filled with a blend of innocence and desperation) You’re our only hope. If anyone can save us, it’s you
Dino, eager to join in, looked up at Joshua with an adorably sad expression, even adding a slight sniffle for effect. His messy shirt and the smudges of black shoe polish on his cheeks made him look even more pitiful
Dino
We didn’t mean for it to go this far, hyung
Dino
And now Scoups-hyung is so angry… Can’t you help us, please?
Dino
(wide, puppy-dog eyes, trying to convey the weight of their collective misery)
Joshua could feel his heart starting to melt. He looked around at the group of friends who were putting on quite the performance, with their exaggeratedly sad faces and pleading eyes. Each one was trying their hardest to look as miserable as possible.
Joshua
(Chuckled softly, shaking his head in disbelief) Alright, alright,
Joshua
(tone playful but affectionate)I’ll talk to him. But no promises, okay? You know how stubborn Scoups can be.
A cheer went up among the members, each of them lighting up with relief and gratitude. Seungkwan practically tackled Joshua in a hug
Seungkwan
(Whispering) You’re the best
As Joshua left to talk to Scoups, the rest of the group exchanged victorious grins. Seungkwan, now energized, quickly filled in The8 on the entire plan, his voice a mix of excitement and satisfaction
Now, all they had to do was wait—and hope that Joshua could work his magic.
