Episode 6

Renan: Please, have a seat.

I sit on the sofa and he sits in an armchair a little bit in front of me.

Renan: I haven't even introduced myself, I'm sorry... my name is Renan and I'm the father of the children you'll be taking care of.

He said it as if I had already been accepted for the job, am I understanding this right?

Julia: It's a pleasure to meet you, Mr. Renan, as I said my name is Julia and I'm 19 years old.

He nodded.

Renan: Really young, that's why I was surprised when you arrived... Emily said you have experience, could you show me the documents from where you worked?

I only had a small folder in my hand.

Julia: Mr. Renan, I really do have experience... I did everything in the house, I cleaned, organized and cooked, I just didn't take care of children... but, unfortunately, I don't have any documentation to prove it.

Renan: What do you mean you don't have a work permit?

Julia: I don't... The house where I lived was the same house where my mother worked when I was still in her belly, unfortunately, she died in childbirth and since I didn't have a father, Mrs. Marisa and Mr. Paulo decided to raise me.

Renan: That will only be necessary if you pass to the next stage, Julia. As you may already know, I am looking for a nanny for my children, the former one passed away and my other employee went on vacation in the same month, in other words, my life is crazy with these two children.

Julia: I can imagine, I'm very sorry for the loss of the nanny, I believe this has left the children sad.

Renan: Yes, even more so because they don't have a mother present.

Julia: I understand.

Renan: Julia, if you accept my proposal, your salary this month will be three times higher, because besides taking care of the two children I need someone to take care of the house and make the meals, it would be a month of testing and if I like your work, you will be hired only as a nanny from next month. Can you handle it?

Julia: I'm sure I can handle it, I'm used to waking up early, so I would leave the house clean so that when the children woke up I would have more time for them.

Renan: You don't need to overwork yourself, the priority is my children, always! Do what you can, it will only be for a month.

Julia: Ok, I understand.

Renan: My mother is here this week, my nephew is with her, but you don't need to worry about taking care of him, I'll just ask you to serve him the first meal of the day... since my mother is terrified of cooking and wakes up too late to serve breakfast, the rest of the day you don't need to worry about him, she'll take care of it.

Julia: Sure, do you have any other observations?

Renan: My oldest son is a little difficult, he lives playing pranks, so you need twice the patience with him... Gabriel is seven years old and Beatriz is one year and three months old, he studies in the morning and classes start again next week, until then I will guide you better.

Julia: Do they take any specific medication? What time do they usually wake up?

Renan: Bia wakes up a little earlier and sleeps earlier too, she'll be up soon and I can see her on this device.

He shows me a device with a small screen showing the baby in the crib, as it was dark I couldn't see her face well.

Julia: How cute, I can't wait to meet Bia in person... and the boys too.

Renan: Let's go to the kitchen, I'm going to prepare the porridge for when she wakes up, so you already know a part of the house.

I follow him and there he shows me how he makes Bia's porridge.

Renan: She always complains, I don't know how to do it the way Rosa did.

Julia: Mr. Renan, the right way is to heat the water... the amount of milk is also very little, I think it's too thin...

I take the bottle from his hand and show him how to do it.

Julia: I didn't have direct experience with babies, but when I couldn't sleep I always read some magazines to make me sleepy... I ended up learning a few things in one of those maternity magazines.

I shake the bottle and leave it on the counter.

Julia: Now we just have to wait for the baby to wake up, then you put a little on your hand to see if it's not too hot.

Renan: Wow, so that's why Bia always made that face.

Julia: Poor thing, it's a good thing you know now.

Renan: Thanks to you, otherwise Alice would complain again today.

He looks at me and I can't help but laugh.

Renan: Come on, I'll show you the rest of the house.

We walked through the entire house and the children's room we only passed by the door. We returned to the living room after he had shown me everything.

Renan: I know you won't be able to handle everything alone, so I want to make it clear once again that the priority is my children, we've been eating restaurant food lately so if you don't have time on any given day, just call one of those restaurants on the list by the phone, send me the amount and I'll send the money.

Julia: It's a good idea for the busiest days, but I don't think we'll need it.

Renan: I'm going to be traveling and spending a few days away from home, my mother will be with you during this time, but if there's an emergency just call me and I'll be back right away.

Julia: Okay, Mr. Renan.

Renan: You officially start tomorrow, bring your clothes and whatever else you need, a driver will pick you up tomorrow morning... You can probably already imagine you'll need to sleep here, on Saturdays you only work a half day and you can sleep outside the mansion, Sunday is your day off.

Julia: Wonderful.

Renan: Great Julia, anything just call me on this number and ask any questions.

He hands me a card.

Julia: It's a shame I didn't get to meet the kids today, I can't wait to see them tomorrow! Mr. Renan, thank you so much for the opportunity, I promise I won't let you down.

Renan: It was nice meeting you Julia, I think my kids will approve of you.

Julia: I hope so.

Renan: My driver will drop you off at home and pick you up early tomorrow morning, be ready.

Julia: Sure, I'll get everything ready.

Renan: No problem, do you have an email?

Julia: I don't have one either... Could you call me at my friend's phone number? She's your neighbor's employee, I'm staying at her house.
