CHAPTER 4: Mysterious people

Finally, the day has come, the day I have been training for, September 5th the day my brother turns 20 and the day almost lost my life.

"My lady, Amora it is time to greet the guests." Said, Nina.

I got dressed in a gown which was of a grape wine color and put on the new accessories that my brother gifted me for my birthday 16th birthday last year and the new accessories.

As soon as I entered the banquet hall people started to stare at me as if I was not from this world. But I knew exactly why they were staring at me; it was to check if the rumors were true that I was too ugly to be seen in public or if my family beat me up and abused me.

Well, that was one of my reasons for coming to this party to clear up the misunderstandings of people and show that we are a normal family. I had to go around talking to everyone and greeting everyone.

"You must be tired Amora, go and sit somewhere, I don't want you to lose your energy before the ceremony starts," said Brother out of concern.

It was as if he read my mind because I was really tired after all the greetings.

I hated the crowd I hated everything about society. Everyone just puts a mask on their face and backstabs the other.

I looked out as the pleasant wind blew across my face.

"Oh! I thought this balcony was free, sorry I didn't mean to disturb you, but is it okay if I say here?"

I turned around to a girl my age and I think a few years older standing at the balcony's door. She looked like a war hero with a strong build. She had dark brown hair which resembled the color of dark chocolate and big dark eyes and to put the cherry on top she had slightly dark-colored skin. Everything about her was unique.

"Umm...may I ask from which family exactly you are from?"

She smiled at me and said, "Well, I am from the Marquess family of Darnell, and I am Maria Darnell second born of the family."

I was quite shocked since I thought she was from a different country but she was actually from our place.

I and Maria became close to each other within that day. We had lots in common and she had an interesting personality and was very easy to speak with, it might be because she was my age, but I never had anyone as close as her so far in my previous life. I completely forgot about the assassination event but I am sure we passed it and no one has assassinated me until now.

"Say, Princess Amora-"

"Please call me Amora when it's just the two of us,"

She seemed hesitant but I was a little too desperate to make her call me by my name without honorifics. Just then there was a tap on the balcony door. I looked over to Maria and saw her trembling in fear. It was strange to see her like that.

When the door opened there stood a tall, well-proportioned man with velvet black hair and charcoal-like eyes. When he looked at Maria, he smiled softly yet it had a sinister feel that it gave chills down my spine. Anyone could get seduced by his charm despised their gender. The charm of a devil.

"Darling, you were up here! I was looking all over for you!" he said as he looked at her and then looked at me.

"Ah, if it is not the rumored Amora Erwin from the Erwin Duchy," he said as he slowly approached closer.

"Is this not rude Sir? You enter the balcony without asking for our permission and now talk to me as if we know each other?" I said and I stood in front of Maria.

He gave a soft chuckle and bowed, "Where are my manners, I am Darvin Donovan from the Donovan Duchy from the Northern Empire of Arean, it's a pleasure to meet you," he said and kissed the back of my hand.

"And what is such a great person from Donovan Duchy doing her?" I questioned.

He looked behind me and grinned, "I'm here as an escort for my fiancée, Maria Darnell," he said holding out his hand.

For some reason, this doesn't feel right, and I have a bad feeling about this. But I can't tell because Maria seemed to know this guy though she looked afraid.

The both of them walk out,, and I hear them talk about not completing a job or something like that. For some reason this doesn't sit right with me,, I have to check out his true intentions and for that, I need to get close to them.

In my past life, I heard that, Donovan Duchy had a big underground mafia and that he was the leader of it, but I never heard of a fiancée. I never he was not married but this was a first, and it seemed like Maria was at peace when she talked to me but when he came in the atmosphere changed all of a sudden, like it became stuffier and harder to breathe.

I walked out of the balcony because the program had already started, I came in the middle when my brother was giving his speech. I slowly squeezed through the crowd to have a better look.
