...Chapter 10...
Elex?
My insides fell. I rushed my gaze around every parameter and person that I could, in hopes of proving my premonition wrong. But to no avail.
“Lily!”
She turned to me seemingly conscious by my troubled look.
“Elex...where’s Elex?”
“El_?”
At first Lily looked perplex as her gaze scanned my face but soon the look changed to that of uneasy vigilance.
“Sis—El…?”
Elis’ too swept her head in all directions. After making sure it was futile, she turned to me.
“Where’s he?” asked Lily.
“I–I don’t…” My voice trailed off.
I just…
Just when I— looked back. He–he was…
“Gone…”, slipped my lips.
My head spun as my breath grew heavy. In illusion of some hope, my eyes searched around again. Again in that glimmer to see a familiar silhouette.
My feet gradually rushed forward searching every nook and cranny. Near stalls, in alleys, inside shops, at cross roads. Only to have my efforts reduced to dust.
What did I do?
Elex!
Just where in earth could he have disappeared to?
How will I face aunt and uncle if something were to__
I need to find him. At all cost.
My palm rounded into fists beside me.
The world around me spun gradually while I took in heavy breaths. Just then I felt a sharp pain on my cheek.
My hand clasped my burning cheek as my icy palm tried to soothe the discerning swell.
Two hands rested on my shoulder as my whole body felt a vigorous shake.
“Come to your senses!”
I looked up after a familiar voice yelled to my face.
“I_”
“It’s not your fault alone. There was carelessness on our part too!” A pair of determined emerald hues bore at my face
“It’s not the time to panic.”
“But__”
“No ifs and buts. It’s better to look for him than to waste our time here”, said Lucas.
But I’m not panicking.
Never mind.
“Let’s split up so that it becomes easy to find him. Lily can go together with Elis while Lucas and I will look for him separately.”
I shot a gaze to Lily. She too nodded slightly.
Seems like she understood.
“Okay. Let’s go separate ways. Who ever finds him first should send out a magic signal”, said Lily.
We all agreed and split up in all directions.
After splitting away, I turned around as my gaze followed the backs of my companions. Just when all the familiar silhouettes merged away in the throng, I placed a hand on my pocket.
After making sure none familiar eyes were around, I turned away into an alley all the while shifting my gaze around in efforts to spot some acquainted figures.
After a while of deliberate search my sight fell on a few figures looming in the side alleyways. Away from the eyes of the civil folk but keeping a keen note of every happening, from a blind spot corner.
My sudden emergence provoked a sudden alert reaction as well as visible hostile suspicion.
