Chapter 6

Rebekah walked over to her son and touched his cheek, patted him, then bent down and kissed him on the forehead.

— Do you remember Mommy, son? — Rebekah asks, stroking her son's face.

— I remember… I'm still a little confused.  — Bryan says, fidgeting on the bed and running a hand over his face, showing that he is confused by the whole situation.

— And the accident, do you remember? —  Rebekah asked.

— I just remember being at the bar… the rest I don't remember so clearly. — he says.  — my head hurts.

Bryan tells his mother, who quickly says that she will call a doctor to attend to him.  Rebekah left, leaving Petra there alone, under Bryan's curious gaze.

She walked slowly over to the bed, Bryan still watching her intently.  Petra was starting to get really nervous.

— So are you my wife? — the man asked hoarsely.

Petra nodded, not knowing what to say.  She felt a tightness in her chest as she looked at him.  He was tall and had shiny, dark brown hair and deep blue eyes.  Petra couldn't deny that he was very handsome.

However, Petra felt awkward.  She couldn't deny the physical attraction she felt for him, but still, she didn't know anything about the man lying in that hospital bed.

She sat beside him, curling her fingers in the sheet as she tried to find the words to say.

— How did you become my wife? — he asks.  — I had a bride, but it wasn't you.

— You were going to marry my sister. — says Petra sincerely.  — Emma didn't want to get married, so I kind of became the surrogate bride, my dad didn't want to break your contract, the merger of the companies had to happen one way or another.

She was honest with her words, Petra wasn't one to spin around, so she got straight to the point and laid it all out.

Bryan unintentionally ended up smiling, he liked sincere people who always went straight to the point, without getting too carried away.

— Why are you laughing?  — Asks Petra, looking at him curiously, but a smile forms on her lips.

— You're honest, I like that. — he says.

The girl's cheeks turned red, and she looked away trying to hide her smile, but her attention returned to the man when he held her hand and looked deep into her eyes, Petra was mesmerized.

— Why did your sister drop out of the marriage? — the man asked, looking down at her, her gaze so intense that Petra just couldn't hide anything from him.

— She said she didn't want to marry a disabled man, and that she didn't want to spend the rest of her life pushing a wheelchair… — When Petra realized what she was talking about, she quickly stopped talking and looked at Bryan with a frown. Apologetic look.

Bryan sighed deeply, and when he finally decided to say something, the door was opened by her mother, behind her was a doctor and a nurse.

The nurse gave Bryan some medicine that would help with his headache, after which she left and the doctor approached.

— What are you feeling? — the doctor asks Bryan.

— Nothing, just my head hurting. — he says as he faces the doctor.

— The headache is due to your effort to remember what happened, I ask you not to force your memory, let it gradually come back naturally.  — says the doctor, and Bryan nodded. — Do you feel your legs?

Bryan denies it.

Petra watches him from afar, he doesn't seem so scared about the whole situation, he just has his face showing confusion in the face of everything that happened.

— Okay, that's normal given the surgery and the two months in a coma.  — says the doctor, Bryan closes his eyes and takes a deep breath, then opens them and glances at Petra. — You'll need a physiotherapist, but it would be even better and more productive if you constantly massaged your legs to stimulate the muscles.  This will give more result with physical therapy.

— I'm sure my wife will help me with the massages.  — says Bryan staring at Petra, he had a sideways smile as he stared at his wife, who quickly had her cheeks flushed.

Would she touch him?  Would she help him?...but how was she going to do that?

— How…how can I help with the massage? — Petra asks, her cheeks still red.  — I don't know how to massage, I don't know what the right massage will be to stimulate your muscles.

— I'll give you some books where you'll read and learn about muscles, how they work and where they're located. — says the doctor.  — then it will be easier for you to massage in the right place.

— All good. — says Petra, smiling gratefully.

— And when can I leave? — Bryan asked.

— First, you will have to do some tests, and you will also be under observation. — says the doctor.  — the physiotherapist at the hospital will start doing some exercise sessions with you, if you like her services, you can hire her to be your permanent physiotherapist until she recovers.  And, about leaving, I believe that next week you will be able to go home.  But taking every precaution possible.

— Okay, I'll take every possible precaution. — Bryan says.  — my wife will take good care of me.

Petra, who hadn't taken her eyes off her husband since entering that room, blushed again, she must have looked so silly for acting like that.  But, it turns out, she wasn't used to the fact that she was now married and that Bryan had a certain amount of power over her.  Petra had never dated, never been intimately involved with anyone, just had a few kisses, if you could call it a kiss.  So, this whole situation was new to her and made her very ashamed.

— That is good. — says the doctor.  — having the care of someone you love is great and will help with recovery.  I just ask that you don't overdo the sex, Bryan is still in recovery.

The doctor's direct manner was enough to make Petra mortified, as she looked at Bryan, who was smiling as he stared at Petra in embarrassment.  She looks away while listening to the doctor say a few more things about The care that Bryan should have.
