"All the information you requested has been sent via email. You are in for a surprise, be ready to deal with your in-laws, boss," Indra said through the phone connection.
"Okay... Thank you. One more thing, please find out about the new manager in the marketing department, his name is Tono Gunawan," Satria replied.
"You have many cases to investigate, boss. But all right, I'll take care of everything. You'll receive the report tomorrow."
Click...
Indra, the impudent assistant, unilaterally disconnected the call... But Satria never got angry, he just grumbled to himself.
"What's wrong, dear?" Dinda asked as she placed his favorite black coffee before him.
"It's nothing, Din. It's just office work. Thanks for the coffee, my dear wife," Satria said before taking a sip of the steaming coffee.
"Be careful, it's still hot," Dinda warned.
Aaaooowww...
Suddenly, Satria yelped as he set the coffee on the table, burning his lips, despite having just been reminded by Dinda.
"You should know better than to gulp down hot coffee like that," Dinda chuckled.
"I forgot, Din," Satria responded briefly.
Knock Knock Knock
"Dinda... Din, Dinda!" someone shouted from outside.
Dinda got up and opened the door, finding Mr. Tarno knocking erratically. She nearly rebuked him.
"What's wrong?" she inquired.
"It's Mr. Karim... he fainted in the field. We have taken him to the clinic. Your father's house was empty when we checked," Mr. Tarjo explained breathlessly.
What...
Father fainted?
Dinda was shocked to hear her father had fainted. She didn't ask any more questions and quickly got Satria to go to the clinic to check on Mr. Karim. Even though Satria had been about to head out to sell his products, he postponed his plans as his father-in-law's condition was more important.
"How is my father, doctor?" Dinda asked upon arrival at the clinic.
"Mr. Karim needs to be taken to the hospital because our equipment here is not sufficient to determine what's wrong with him. Based on his symptoms, it looks like he may have had a heart attack. Whether it's serious or not should be thoroughly checked at the hospital, as this is just a small clinic," the doctor explained.
Heart attack?
Dinda burst into tears when the doctor mentioned the possibility of a heart condition. She had forgotten to contact her mother and siblings.
"Din, stop crying. Let's take dad to a bigger hospital now, it's pitiful if we just stand here. Don't worry about the cost, I will take care of it," Satria reassured her.
"Yes, dear. Thank you. But I haven't called Mother and my brothers. They need to know dad is sick. Why hasn't Father regained consciousness? He's okay, isn't he?" Dinda asked between sobs.
"God willing, he will be fine. Let's head to the hospital now. I've already called for an ambulance to take us. We'll reach out to Mom and the others on the way," Satria said softly.
Dinda nodded, with Mr. Karim now on his way to the hospital. The drive was fairly long, around 40 minutes to reach the hospital.
"Assalamualaikum, Mom... Where are you?" Dinda asked through the phone.
"I just got back from a gathering, what's wrong, Din?" inquired Mrs. Rahayu.
"Mom, Dad fainted in the field and we're now on our way to the hospital."
"Dad fainted? And now you're taking him to the hospital? How dare you, Dinda, you should've discussed it with Mother or your siblings before making such a decision. How will you pay for it, Dinda? Hospital bills are expensive. Bringing him to the clinic should have been enough to get him better."
"Oh my God, Mom... It's a life at stake here! Dad was already treated at the clinic but the doctor advised that he should be taken to the hospital for further examination. He hasn't regained consciousness till now, he's even on oxygen," Dinda replied.
"Alright... I will speak with your siblings first. I'll contact them now," her mother said before hanging up.
Dinda's gaze turned back to Mr. Karim who was still unconscious.
After a 40-minute journey, the ambulance arrived at the large hospital. Several doctors and nurses greeted the vehicle. They promptly took Mr. Karim to the emergency room.
"Why are the doctors so prompt, as if they knew we were bringing a patient?" Dinda asked in surprise.
"I've already contacted the hospital," Satria answered.
"So, this is your hospital?" Dinda inquired.
Satria simply nodded and smiled at Dinda, who just gaped in astonishment, realizing she had married an actual mogul, not just a figure out of a celebrity world.
"How is my father-in-law, Fadli?" Satria asked without any formalities.
"Can we talk in my office?" asked Dr. Fadli.
Dinda and Satria followed Dr. Fadli to his office. Once there, Dr. Fadli described Mr. Karim's condition, and Dinda cried even more upon learning her father needed surgery for a stent placement.
"So, my father's heart condition is severe?" Dinda asked disbelievingly after Dr. Fadli's explanation.
"Yes, miss. It seems your father has been suffering from heart disease for a while but never had it checked or taken care of his health and diet," Dr. Fadli's statement rang true.
Mr. Karim had been feeling unwell for several months but refused to seek medical attention, claiming it was just exhaustion and not worth a doctor's visit.
"Do what's best for my father-in-law; I trust his care to you," Satria stated confidently.
"Me and the other doctors will do our best for Mr. Karim. Sir, please take care of the consent forms for the surgery, so we can proceed as soon as Mr. Karim is stable," Dr. Fadli replied respectfully, despite being a childhood friend of Satria's.
Dinda and Satria left Dr. Fadli's office to head back to the emergency room, only to find Mr. Karim had already been moved to a VIP inpatient room. He was being given intensive care to stabilize his condition before the stent placement surgery was to be carried out.
"Dinda!" Rudi and the others called out.
"How is Dad doing?" Rudi asked on behalf of the group.
"Dad needs a stent placement surgery, and right now he's undergoing treatment to stabilize his condition. The surgery will be in the next two or three days," Dinda explained.
What?????
The group was unanimously shocked. What preoccupied their minds was the cost. The stent placement surgery wasn't cheap, especially at a large hospital like this, and Mr. Karim had no health insurance—unless the one they had could be used in the city.
"You're out of your mind, Dinda! How will we pay for this?" Reno asked angrily.
"We can chip in; if it costs 20 million, we divide it by four, each paying 5 million. I asked at the administration, and the surgery alone costs around 20 million, not including the care," Dinda said, stunning her three siblings.
"I won't do it!" Rena refused sharply.
"Rena, why are you talking like this, child? Dad is sick and needs funds for surgery. It's all of you who should be paying for Dad's hospital expenses. The harvest from the fields isn't ready yet," Mrs. Rahayu said.
"Rudi can't either, Mom... Rudi has house loan payments. Not to mention Sinta's salon expenses," Rudi declined.
"Reno can't either," all three children refused to help with Mr. Karim's hospital bills.
Satria was puzzled by his three in-laws' behavior at such a crucial time, with none willing to care for their parent. They prioritized their lifestyles over their father's health. Dinda clenched her fists after hearing her siblings' responses.
"So, how will we cover the hospital bills?" Mrs. Rahayu asked.
"Let Dinda and Satria ask since they were the ones extremely forward to bring Dad to this big hospital," Reno snapped, pointing at Satria and Dinda.
"This was the nearest hospital; plus, this is for Dad, your father as well," Dinda said.
Overhearing the endless debate with no resolution in sight, Satria finally spoke up.
"I will cover all costs for Dad's treatment at this hospital. From surgery, medication, and care, I will take care of it all. So, stop arguing amongst yourselves. In truth, you aren't destitute, but you're miserly. The health insurance from your companies actually can be used for your father. It's meant for your biological parents as well," Satria stated.
"Don't act like you know everything! Go ahead and cover all Dad's hospital expenses since it was you who brought him here in the first place. And how do you know about company health insurance being used for biological parents when not every company has such policies?" Rudi questioned curiously, astounded by his indigent brother-in-law's knowledge of company health benefits.
"Because I was the one who set up the rules," Satria answered nonchalantly.
Hahahahaaaaa
Rudi and the group burst into laughter, mocking Satria's delusion. Yes, they considered Satria had lost his mind.
"You're crazy, brother-in-law! Dinda, why would you marry someone so out of his mind?" Reno laughed.
