After a few days, in Mr. William's office with his wife, Luiza.
Joseph: Good morning, my friends. I have some news, which could be good news.
Luiza lets out a little scream: Joseph, tell me you found a future wife for my son!
William: Calm down, Luiza, don't get carried away, that's almost impossible. (Chuckles)
Joseph: You believe in God, don't you?
Luiza: Of course, very much! Without Him, we wouldn't even have half of what we have, we wouldn't have our children, we wouldn't have found love, God is everything!
William: Yes, I believe in God very much. Why do you ask?
Joseph: Well, I think God is on your side.
William: What do you mean, Joseph?
Joseph: Remember I told you I was going to do some research on the daughter of that Mr. Henrique who owes us a lot of money and doesn't have it? He is...well, let's just say he's in no condition to pay.
I researched his daughter. Like I said, one is married, and the other...well, you are going to like this very much.
The other one is a university professor, she has an enviable resume. The girl is 24 years old and is doing her doctorate in finance. She's a whiz with numbers, winning awards since elementary school, earned a lot of recognition regarding numbers, she is great! Works at the best college and this is the second year she has been teaching a group of businessmen. She is extremely responsible. From what I found out, she has supported her father since she was 18, as her mother died when she was 15. From what I understand, she was forced to mature.
And the best part, my dear or my dear friends, the girl has never dated, she doesn't have a boyfriend, she doesn't have a fling, and she practically has no personal or social life.
She works every night at the college, in the morning, she walks dogs. In the afternoon, I don't know if she studies, sometimes she goes out with her material and comes back after a while, I don't know if she's giving private lessons and didn't have time to find out, also, logically, I hired 2 detectives and sent one to each side. In other words, one went into detail about her entire resume, her entire professional life, and the other followed her. So I got it...of course, I couldn't get all the information.
Luiza: Wow, she's perfect, does this girl really exist?
Joseph: She exists and I'm not done yet, hold on, there are a few more things.
William: This is too good, my friend, too good!
Joseph: She is a very hard worker and she has a passion that caught my attention, she is passionate about cars.
William: Our son is passionate about cars! I've already spent a fortune on him, really. Not that Benjamin doesn't have his 1,000 flaws in his personal life, but professionally he is very good, and so he spends a lot of money on cars, it really is a passion of Benjamin's.
Joseph: So, besides her having this in common with Benjamin, before starting her activities, there's something else that caught my attention that Benjamin does.
Luiza: Don't tell me she runs every morning.
Joseph: Exactly, my friend! She runs and she's very good, and she even trains alone, because, between us, it's not easy for a girl to support a house.
But getting back to the subject, she runs marathons nearby, she ran here in New York last year and won first place, and she's very good, from what I've noticed she's very dedicated, very much so, and it was through these little marathons that she bought her car. She has a car and as her brother-in-law has a garage, and he's even worked on some cars, some of your son's. He makes the cars faster, does all those things.
When she has some free time, actually, some people told me, the people we got information from, or rather bought information from, one of them works with her brother-in-law, and told us that in her spare time, she often goes to tinker with her car with her brother-in-law, so she really understands a little bit, I don't know if she understands a lot, from what he said it's a passion of hers, and she uses this facility she has to run and be determined to be able to buy parts and stuff for her car.
We have a not-so-good side. As she is very young, she doesn't dress up. That's information I gathered from some of her neighbors. The girl needs to look older to work. There's even a lady, I don't remember, I don't recall the name, Carmen, I think, who really likes this girl. A neighbor, you know, those neighbors who keep an eye on everyone's business, she gave me a lot of information, said she's a very respectful girl, that she's never seen her with any man, that she takes care of her father, that she works a lot, and that she has this bad side that I was telling you about, that she doesn't dress up. She said she's never seen the girl arrive with shopping bags or go out dancing with her friends, things like that, she's never seen her do. So I stopped to observe this side and really, Luiza, you're going to have to do something about it. The girl is beautiful, with all due respect, because I could be her father because of my age, but she's really beautiful! It's just that she doesn't dress up, as I was saying. She needs to look older to teach her classes. Imagine, a girl teaching businessmen who are 25, 28, 30, 35, 50, 40 years old...
It's not easy, so it's certainly a tactic of hers to survive, without being, how can I say, harassed.
William: I'm impressed. If this is really all true, she's the wife our son needs. I just don't know if he's the husband she deserves to have.
Luiza: I agree with you. Our son has a horrible personal life, full of women, parties, drinking, nothing to be proud of, nothing that would make him worthy of a woman like that. But we need her. Now how do we get her to marry our son?
Joseph: So...since Mr. Henrique, her father, owes us a fortune, I thought, my dear friend William, that we could use this to our advantage.
Luiza: But that's inhumane, to make a girl marry a guy because of her father's debt, which isn't even hers.
William: Luiza, either that or we let our son marry one of these girls he keeps showing up with, or a little friend, if you know what I mean.
Luiza: No! I'd rather be unfair and do what I can to help the girl get through these two years. But let's talk to Benjamin too, I don't want him to ruin her life like that.
William: All right, I agree. Theirs will be a marriage of convenience, so they won't be forced to consummate the marriage, shall we say. We'll try to find a way for her to accept more easily. Unfortunately, I'm going to use this to my advantage, I'm going to use her father's debt to blackmail her. It's the only way.
Joseph: When would you like to do this?
William: Today. Have one of the detectives you hired keep an eye on the house, when they're both there let me know and you and I will go there.
Joseph: Don't you think it's better if we call them here?
William: No! Let's go to them, to make it seem a little scary. We need to be a little intimidating.
Actually, you know, Joseph and Luiza, we have partnerships with the mafia. We're not mobsters, but we have a partnership and this does affect the personal lives of the members who will take on responsibilities for our business with them. That is, in my absence, which will be our son Benjamin.
The mafia has a lot of respect for family and they really demand that businessmen have wives. To them, it means that the man with a wife can control the environment in which he lives and thus his business. And that's how most mobsters think. I don't want to have problems with them, we never had problems with them and they give us a good profit in the casinos, in some hotels...The point is, if necessary, we'll suddenly use the name or something like that for intimidation. Of course, we're not going to go beyond that because no one here is a criminal or we haven't done anything illegal that harms people. Maybe in legal terms, the way our gambling works, a lot of it is, but not in a way that harms people or hurts them.
Joseph: All right then. Are you going to tell Benjamin or are you going to wait until we talk to the girl?
Luiza: I think we can say we have someone in mind, but let's go talk to her. What if, even with intimidation and blackmail, we're not successful? I think it's better to wait to tell him, in case by then, they find someone too.
William: I still doubt this girl exists. (Laughs) If she even exists, it's impossible to find one like that, or rather, another one like that!
Joseph: Well, as I told you at the beginning of the conversation, God loves you. That's the only explanation.
