Episode 5

We moved to the office, and shortly after, Mrs. Monica arrived with coffee. She served us and we sat down to talk while Monica went to keep Mr. Marcos company.

The atmosphere was tense until I gave him the floor to speak, asking him to explain why he was looking for me. I already knew the reasons, but I wanted to hear his version, as I knew Anna's.

Santino: I'm glad my niece is alive and well, but I've come here to offer you a deal. I want my niece to meet my parents, her grandparents, and for that, we must travel to Italy. Remember that my brother passed away, and she is all that remains of him.

You may wonder why I didn't come into her life sooner. The reason is that my mother was greatly affected by the death of her other son. She was depressed, and my father and I focused on our businesses and taking care of her until she recovered. Seeing her lie and hearing it was the worst. With her innocent and sweet face, she's a compulsive liar. She knows how to act, but I must be better than her. Once we're in Italy, I will show my true colors. I will avenge my brother. I promised him, and I will fulfill that promise.

I acted very kind towards her when, in reality, all I wanted was to grab her by the neck and be done with her. I can't deny that she is more beautiful than before. Being a mother gives her a special glow. But I can't focus on that. I can't fall in love with her like my brother did. I don't want to end up like him.

Anny:

Santino is a handsome man. I enjoyed getting to know him. He's a gentleman and kind, and he inspired trust in me. Most importantly, he doesn't want to take Lucero away from me. He just wants her to meet her grandparents, and I won't deny her that right. Just like me, they want to protect her.

I only hope that he is not in a relationship, and if he is, that his girlfriend doesn't get upset about the fact that he and I are going to spend time together. Our connection is because of the girl, I hope there won't be any misunderstandings. Although I haven't allowed myself to get to know any men, I would like to get to know Santino more. Perhaps love can grow between us, and together we can bring happiness to our niece. Well, my daughter, because Lucero is my daughter. I didn't give her life, but I protected her so that my sister wouldn't harm her. If there's one thing that bothers me, it's that he thought I was Anna. We may look alike, but we are not the same. After finishing talking with Santino, I showed them to their room and helped Monica in the kitchen. I want them to try our wines and cheeses. I know they are the best in this area.

We set the table and served the cheeses and wines. They tasted them and congratulated us. We had dinner peacefully. He didn't take his eyes off me. I suppose it's because of how I attend to Lucero, feeding her from her chair. At three years old, she still doesn't eat by herself. When we are alone, I let her eat on her own even if it gets messy. But now we have visitors, and I don't want a mess.

I don't believe that people change. She is acting very well in our presence. Seeing how she feeds Lucero is very tender; she obviously loves her. I have to pay close attention to everything because, as far as I have noticed, she is a pathological liar, addicted to lying. I know she created that story about having a sister herself. I haven't brought up the topic of my brother yet. I don't want it to affect my plans, but I will let her know later on.
