story teller
"I've been outside for a long time, open the door ..."
That night I slept at my friend Sarip's house because the next day we planned to go for a job interview at a supermarket near his house.
Earlier, I told my mother and father to look for a part-time job because now it is a long holiday while waiting for the results of Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM).
So instead of hanging out at home, I'd better go out to work. At least get some pocket money.
The distance between my house and Sarip's is not far, only about four kilometers, but because his parents were not at home to visit his sister who had just given birth in Kuala Lumpur, he invited me to spend the night at his house. He said, is also a chat buddy.
After dinner at a nearby stall we went home. Follow her mother is ready to leave dinner for the two of us, but we decided to eat out, being aware of the souls of teenagers. It feels more fun hanging out outside than a messy day at home.
We got home when the clock approached 12 midnight. Even the eyes have begun to wither due to drowsiness. I told Sarip not to sleep in the room with him because it was more comfortable to sleep on the living room sofa.
Sarip then gave him a blanket and a pillow.
"Tomorrow, if you wake up early don't forget to wake me," he said as he stepped into the room.
I just grinned. Do not know what time it feels like to wake up tomorrow morning because the body feels quite tired from being outside all day.
"But if you wake up early, don't forget to surprise me too," I said while lying down on the sofa.
Sarip did not reply to my words. All I heard was the sound of the door closing. I looked at the clock in the living room. It's almost 12.30pm. The atmosphere outside was quiet, all that could be heard was the whistling of the wind and interspersed with the faint barking of dogs.
I turned left and right. It's really hard to close your eyes. Really weird. Earlier, the eyes felt very heavy, but when lying down like this, it felt fresh. I grumbled to myself in my heart.
As his eyes were about to fall asleep, suddenly a telephone rang on a nearby table. Although not loud, but clearly audible. I was resilient to wake up.
I thought my cell phone rang, apparently the phone was in the house. Whoever called tonight, my heart sank.
I thought of surprising Sarip in the room, but felt sorry for her. Maybe he's fast asleep. So I decided to answer the call. If there is something important later, then I will surprise Sarip, I thought to myself.
"Hello, who is that?" I asked. The atmosphere was quiet for a moment. I attached the phone algae close to my ear.
"Huh, I've been out of this for a long time. Open the door! ” answer the voice at the end of the line.
I jerked and got up quickly. Through the voice I heard, I knew it was Sarip's father. Indeed, I really recognize his voice because before Sarip and I used mobile phones, I always called the phone at his house and his father who often answered the call.
I thought of surprising Sarip, but it was a pity if his father waited so long outside, so I kept opening the door. Slowly I opened the door. But I didn't see anyone outside. I'm surprised.
"Huh, luckily you don't sleep anymore, if we don't be out here soon," said a hoarse voice nearby.
My blood is absorbed. Immediately I turned around. Her father and mother were seen jumping from the edge of the house. I grinned as I let them in. I was really embarrassed then.
"Err, do you want me to surprise Sarip, uncle?" I asked the man of half a century who had just stepped into the living room.
"No need. She's asleep. Just leave it, ”he said slowly. I just grinned and nodded.
"You also go to sleep. It's late tonight, "said his father again as he walked towards the room in the back.
“Good uncle, aunt. Good night? ” I said slowly as I headed to the sofa where I was lying just now.
The couple did not reply to my words. Maybe they are tired and a bit sleepy. If not, it is not possible that Sarip's mother did not speak a word because as far as I know, she is quite friendly. After all, it's not that he doesn't know me, in fact, I've always come to his house.
But my heart also said why did they return late at night like this when Sarip told his father and mother would return in two days.
I'm trying to be nice. Maybe there is a reason why they came home early, otherwise, it is not possible that blind nights like this they are willing to return, I thought to myself.
I myself did not notice what time I fell asleep. Just realize the day is bright. Sarip had just finished taking a shower.
"Huh, get up quickly. After you take a shower, let's go for breakfast at a regular mamak shop, ”he said while giving me a towel.
I reached for the towel and headed for the bathroom. After getting ready I packed pillows and blankets on the couch.
"Let's move bro," he said as he stepped outside.
"Eh, you don't have to lock the mango, your father and mother will have a hard time coming out," I told him who was locking the mango on the fence outside the house at that time.
Sarip frowned in surprise.
“Where do my father and mother want to go out? They are not even at home, ”he told me.
I smiled. It seems that Sarip still does not know that his father and mother have returned home last night. So without hiding I was frank.
"Your father and mother are back bro. Last night he came back. I opened the door. I remember wanting to surprise you, but your father didn't share, "I said frankly.
Sarip was silent. He then unlocked the mango and invited me into the house.
Arriving in front of his father's room he slowly opened the door.
"Bro, come here for a moment," he said to me, who was still caught in the living room.
“Try looking at this room. Where is anyone? I told my father and mother to come back the day after tomorrow, "he said, looking at me with a confused face.
I fell silent. I, who was not satisfied, continued to look into all the niches of the neatly arranged room. True, no one is there.
I rubbed my face slowly. I told you what happened last night. Sarip looked at me with a pale lesion. His face looked anxious and incoherent.
“Bro, the phone has not been used for a long time. It's been almost a month. Since my father used a mobile phone, the phone in the living room was just a decoration, ”he told me.
I'm deaf. Didn't know what to explain then. There's no way I'm dreaming. I still remember everything. Suddenly I thought. If it’s true what happened last night is a reality, then who exactly stepped into the house. Suddenly my hair stood on end.
"Haha .." Suddenly there was a sound of laughter heard from outside the house.
I finally brought Sarip to my house. Can't afford to spend the night at his house anymore.
She was scared too.
It's over. the end.
