ep.4: after a long time

Ryan was about to answer Jaxon’s question because he felt bad for teasing him all the time, when all of the sudden I felt a warm, familiar hand hover over my shoulder and out of the blue started to tap it.

“Hey, my name is Jaxon and you must be Kayla. If I’m not mistaken, this is the first time we’ve met.” He said with a bright voice.

He’s voice the same as it was since the last time I heard him. I didn’t want to turn around but I had always taught myself to be brave and friendly. So I plucked up all my courage and calmly turned around.

I said “Hey. Yes, I’m Kayla, Kayla Saito, nice to meet you for the first time, I guess.”

I started to stutter at the very few last words. The words “first time we’ve met.”

His face instantly turned red as if there were rose petals stuck to his cheeks. He was speechless. I could tell.

I ended up saying, “umm are you alright there?”

And he answered in a shaky yet trying to sound confident voice “Uhhh, yeah, yeah I’m fiiinnne.”

I could see in his eyes that he never forgotten me at least I thought so. So I decided to turn back around to clear my mind and recheck all my answers before handing them to the teacher. Right before I was about to stand up to sumbit m work, Jaxon stood up from his chair and it made quite a noise. Almost everyone was starring at him. He then quietly said back down and looked at me with pleading eyes.

I asked him in a somewhat cold yet gentle voice. “Do you need something?”

He instantly replied. “How to do this question”

I really wasn’t in the mood to help him but people were starting at us and since I’m a new student I didn’t want to stand out as much. Normally I would love to help anyone but it’s just that it’s HIM. He left me without a word and he doesn’t think I’d be bothered by that at all? He can’t still be clueless like he is back then. I ended up agreeing to help him despite the hatred I somewhat had for him.

He moved his seat closer to me and his book was so close to him that I had to move closer just to see the equation. I could feel him breathing into my forehead. My heart was pounding but I disnt want it to be obvious so I quickly explained the answer to him hoping I can get back to my seat faster.

“If you add the last two digits together, you result in x \= sin(56) which is your final answer. That’s how you solve x.” I explained.

I could see that he didn’t hear a word I had said because he was day dreaming and he had that face he’d always show me when he was confused. I read the equation again, this time even slower then before. But I could feel a pair of eyes starring at me. I couldn’t take it anymore so I just went back to my seat.

“Thanks” he whispered.

And before I knew it, Maths was over. Normally Maths would feel like it was 10 minutes long but it felt like I was stuck in there for days, months even. It felt like an eternity.

I started to put my books in my bag when Lexa came up to me. She was going to open her mouth to say something regarding Jaxon I think? Probably whether I had met Jaxon before or something.

But that’s when Jaxon suddenly said “hey, um can I talk to you for a while?”

As much as I wanted to say no, I said

“Yes.”
