Tiger Amulet

Angry Lan Wangji was adorable so he did not stop until the counselor threatened to call Madam Yu.

"You wait at the gate after school ah, Nie-xiong. I'll come after I change my clothes," Wei Wuxian said.

"Sure!" Nie Huaisang replied happily.

As soon as all classes ended Wei Wuxian returned to his room to change out of uniform. He turned on his phone to check for messages and was surprised to see messages and missed calls from his mother. Did the teacher tell her about the time he put a frog under Lan Wangji's desk three days ago?

He dialed his mother's number. "Hello, mom."

There was a momentary silence. "Finally, you answered your phone, A Xian."

"What happened?"

"Your grandpa and grandma both just passed away."

Wei Wuxian froze. He almost dropped his phone. "What?"

"I just came out from the airport with your father. Pack your things, I'll come and pick you up in half an hour."

She ended the call. Wei Wuxian sat on his bed, trying to grasp what just happened. His grandparents just passed away, both at the same time.

Wei Changze was an orphan with no relative, so Wei Wuxian only had his maternal grandparents who doted on him. He was quite close to them. Wen Ruohan especially, often placed him on his lap back when he was much smaller and told him stories of cultivators, legendary creatures, ancient emperors and royals. He narrated the story very well, almost as if he had lived through the era. Wei Wuxian enjoyed those stories very much and asked for more each time, until he would fall asleep on his grandfather's lap.

When Lan Wangji returned to his dorm room he found his usually hyperactive roommate sitting in bed, sobbing while clutching his phone. His eyes widened slightly with surprise.

"... Wei Ying?"

He normally never uttered the boy's name and if he did, it was never his birth name, even though Wei Wuxian had told him his birth name countless of times.

Lan Wangji saw the opened duffel bag half-filled with clothes. "... What happened? Where are you going?"

Wei Wuxian rubbed his eyes. "... Funeral. My grandparents."

Lan Wangji's eyes softened. "I'm sorry."

He helped Wei Wuxian packed the rest of his things and offered to relay the message of his upcoming absence to their homeroom teacher and dorm supervisor. Wei Wuxian thanked him. Lan Wangji went as far as to walk him to the school gate. They met Nie Huaisang at the gate - poor guy had been waiting for half an hour. When Lan Wangji informed Nie Huaisang about it, the boy immediately understood and went to inform Jiang Cheng of the news.

Cangse came in a taxi with Wei Changze and was a little surprised to see her son comforted by a boy she never met. She thought she would see Jiang Cheng accompanying her son at the gate, but well... never mind. She would ask her son to introduce the boy after everything was over and Cangse herself was calmer. Right now she pretended to be strong in front of her baby son.

The Wei family trio arrived at Yiling - the ancestral burial ground for the Wen Clan. Wen Yanling was already there with his wife and two children - Wen Qing and Wen Ning. Wen Ruohan's divorced second wife was there as well to pay her respect, along with Wen Chao who was temporarily released from his rehab. Wei Wuxian's adoptive uncle, Xiao Xingchen actually had been the first to receive the news and had arranged for the funeral, with the help of his best friend and Wen Yanling's secretary, Song Lan. The girl who had worked as Wen Ruohan and Baoshan's nurse, A Qing, had helped with the funeral as well.

On the seventh day of the funeral, Wen Yanling had gathered all the Wen family members. The Wen Clan's lawyer read out Wen Ruohan and Baoshan Sanren's wills. Wen Ruohan had no siblings, only distant relatives. He left half of his assets equally between his two children and another half to be divided equally among his three grandchildren. He also set aside a sum of money for Wen Chao to live a modest life following his rehabilitation, under the condition that if his son were to be found doing illegal activity again, the rest of the money would be donated to charity. Baoshan left the academy for her daughter, her collection of jades and jewels for her eldest

son, and a large collection of historical literary and art works for her adopted son. The rest of her money all went to the charity.

The lawyer announced the amount each child and grandchild will be getting. He then added, "Wen Ruohan leaves an ancient ancestral relic, the Stygian Tiger Seal, and his diary, for his youngest grandson, Wei Wuxian. He specifically stated that nobody is to touch the relic other than Wei Wuxian."

Wei Wuxian blinked. What?
