"Wei-xiong, do you want to join me after school?" Nie Huaisang asked.
Wei Wuxian finished his last bit of curry rice. "Where?"
Nie Huaisang grinned. "Cosmic Girls' new single is out! If you buy a CD today you can get a free limited edition poster!"
"Aii, where will I put the poster in my room..." Wei Wuxian sighed. Within three months of staying in Gusu Academy the walls on his side of the room was already plastered with photos of friends and family, posters of his favorite basketball players, and more of his favorite artists.
It was totally in contrast with Lan Wangji, who only had a single framed photo of his family - one Wei Wuxian often stole glances at every single morning because god dammit, those were good genes. Jiang Cheng told him that Lan Xichen, Lan Wangji's older brother was currently the CEO of Gusu Group, even though he was still in his mid-twenties. Wei Wuxian wondered how such a perfect man could exist. Even Lan Wangji himself looked like a prince who came straight out of a fairy tale - if it wasn't for his prickly attitude that made Jin Zixuan look like a friendly guy.
The first day of their meeting, Lan Wangji had actually dragged him to the dorm supervisor, where he was made to copy the three thousand school rules of Gusu Academy (seriously, what kind of school had 3000 rules and what kind of student actually bothered to memorize it?). He got punished, literally for trying to befriend his new roommate and offering a can of soda - which was confiscated by the way, thanks, Lan Wangji. Wei Wuxian learned his name through the freaking nameplate placed on their room door - because freaking Lan Wangji, holier-than-thou refused to speak to him.
When Wei Wuxian told Jiang Cheng and Nie Huaisang about his new roommate, Jiang Cheng only patted his shoulder and said, "serves you right", while Nie Huaisang laughed and told him, "good luck befriending Lan Qiren's nephew. You'll have a higher chance of Senior Jin licking your shoes before that even happen". Wei Wuxian being Wei Wuxian always strived to do the impossible. He tried so many things. He bought Lan Wangji the most luxurious breakfast item on Gusu cafeteria's menu - Egg's Benedict, even sweet-talking the cafeteria auntie to give him the crispiest bacon and fluffiest English muffin - only to find out that Lan Wangji was vegetarian.
All his greetings were returned with a silent stare. He asked him out for movies during weekend but no, the man had guqin classes. He joined him at lunch table but Lan Wangji finished eating without him. He pestered him in every single way but all he received in return was either a silent stare or a scolding. Welp, at least the scolding was an improvement. Getting mad was expressing emotion and that was still communication, right? Though they probably could have done better, since his next-door neighbor, Su Minshan kept knocking his door telling him to tone his voice down. And when Su Minshan did that Lan Wangji became more irate.
After a couple of months, Wei Wuxian had given up trying to be cordial and resorted to annoying Lan Wangji on a daily basis just to get him to speak. He would start teasing him, calling him different names - like Second Young Master Lan, Lan Er Gege, sometimes even Hanguang Jun - after finding out Lan Wangji was also keen of xianxia drama. He recently discovered that like him, Lan Wangji also had a birth name, and now more times than not had called Lan Wangji by his birth name, since it seemed to elicit a response the most. Other than that, he usually doodled pictures of Lan Wangji in his notebook, sometimes purposely leaving erotic magazines on his bed
or Lan Wangji's bed.
