The Curse
" Breakfast is served." My mum yelled from downstairs as she always did but that was either when I was brushing my auburn hair or saying some one or two things to reflection in the mirror but today was different. I was still enjoying the warmness and comfort of my bed when the words finally hit some sense in my head
" Breakfast? " I gasped and quickly made my way to the bathroom.
If I hadn't crushed my alarm clock two days ago I wouldn't be in such a mess but then, it deserved it for the loud and unpleasant noise it made at four am. It helped though, I spent the whole Friday at aunt Kathy's helping to do some clean up which she really needed.
She was old and weary and could barely walk.I made it my habit to help her clean up every Fridays but I didn't show up the Friday before last which explains the tiredness I felt when I returned home.
Within the next ten minutes I was ready for college, I tied my semi dried auburn hair into a pony tail and ran downstairs.
"You are late Audrey." My mum said with a barely noticeable frown on her oval shaped face. She had shoulder length coal black hair, her emerald green eyes and thin pair of lips crowned the beauty of her face.
" I'm sorry mum." I started as I walked down the stairs to plant a kiss on her cheek. " I forgot to....."
" Set your alarm." She ended
" Yeah, Where's Dad?" I asked, trying to walk out of her spotlight.
" He already left for work." She looked at the gold watch on her wrist this time the frown was noticeable. " I made some brownies, help yourself."
" Oh no mum, I'll be leaving for school right away. See you." I ran to her for a goodbye kiss before running out the door.
Luckily enough for me school wasn't that far from home, usually I would walk to school but I couldn't do that right now else I'll get late for Mr Zigfrid's class. Another reason I didn't want to spend a second around my mum was to avoid her opting to drop me. That, was the last thing I wanted for the day. Taking a bus was the only option, Urghh! Just the thought of that gave me goosebumps.
I had never enjoyed entering a bus because it was always crowded and less comfy; I really didn't appreciate crowded zones considering my shyness.
The bus arrived its stop just in time. Glancing at the time on my phone, I prayed the bus would be faster enough to get me to school in less than the ten minutes I had left.
I reached college five minutes before the beginning of the class and squeezed myself through the crowded corridor to my locker where I began to pack up some books I'll need for the class.
" Hello Audrey." A voice said from behind me.
" Hey Jess, what's up?" I asked still packing up my books in my bag.
Jessica and I were best friends, a little more like sisters. She had long brown hair and innocent hazel eyes. She was more attractive than I was and always made herself noticed to whosoever she wanted.
" There's this new, transfered student from San Fransisco, I mean everyone is talking about him. Heard he's hot...OMG, I can't wait to see him." She said twisting few strands of her hair into her well manicured index finger staring at empty space.
I rolled my eyes and closed my locker when suddenly her facial expression changed and I heard her mutter something under her breath which took me a while to figure out.
" The same old guy."
I followed her gaze which led me directly to someone I couldn't stop smiling at.
"The same old guy", was the name Jess called Nick when ever she set eyes on him. She didn't like him much or rather AT ALL and also the fact that we've been seeing each other for close to six months now, something she had and will never do. She could barely date a guy for more than two weeks.
Nick was a tall guy with striking brown eyes and a lovely broad smile. He was part of the school football team. I loved watching him play after school and during competitions.
" Hey." I said with a grin. He grinned back after planting a quick kiss on my cheek. Jess rolled her eyes, grabbed my hand and walked me to class.
" Come on, we're getting late."
She told me many times about Nick cheating but I couldn't believe her well i could, but didn't want to, guess I was simply blinded by love. Not like, I hadn't witness ladies buzzing around him like a swam of bees, Not like I hadn't caught him twice kissing a girl at the cafeteria or heard gossips from girls in the ladies room about us not being a perfect match and all. I heard all those, the thing I couldn't quite understand why he kept apologizing for things he won't stop doing and why I, Audrina Hoodson kept forgiving him and waving it like nothing EVER happened. I was indeed blinded by love.
We all settled two minutes before the teacher made his way into the class. Mr Zigfrid was a middle age man with a broad and wrinkled face. He was irritated by late comers and didn't talk much.
My belly began to flip twenty minutes into the beginning of Mr Zigfrid's class and I regretted not taking breakfast earlier, if I didn't get a new alarm clock by the end of the day then I'm afraid I'll be a victim of this hell I'm going through. I glanced at my watch and couldn't believe I had upto fifteen minutes left to the end of this nightmare.
