Prologue
Once upon a time lived a curious and adventurous young boy who enjoyed the thrill of exploring.
He was eager and very smart, and always could be seen running around with his small white dog.
One day, he overheard a rumour about an evil witch who resided in the abandoned castle on top of the hill.
Getting bored and reckless, he took it upon himself to become his village's hero and went to find the witch.
Entering inside of the castle alongside his dog with a chipped wooden sword, he scowered the castle until finding her in a room, concocting potions.
He announced loud and clear his name and what he was here to do. The witch cackled and sent him away before he got hurt.
In an attempt to make her take him seriously, he stole a gemstone from an alter and started to run off with it.
The gemstone, which had been the core of the witch's immortality, had now been stolen.
She chased after him and finally retrieved the stone. She then set off to chant a curse.
Witch
For a beggar, I offer gold. For a rich man, I offer long life. For a thief, I offer you this.
Witch
I curse you to become the thieving dog that you are every night under the moon. You will not belong with animals or with humans. You will forever be alone. A monster.
Witch
I confine you to this castle, just like I once was.
Witch
This way, you shall forever regret your foolish actions of coming here and stealing my power.
The boy was surrounded with a deep cerulean light and was never seen after that day.
And after that, the castle became the scariest place. Howls could be heard late at night and sometimes, a child who stayed up after their bedtime could see a light move around the castle and the silhouette of a monster flickering amongst the embers.
The legend of the monster inhabiting the castle soon spread around the village and parents urged their children never to play in the woods in case the monster was out hunting.
It became a bedtime story so that the children would be wary of the unknown and to discourage curiosity. However, there was one girl who ignored the warnings against curiousity and embraced it.
This is her story... and the story of a monster who isn't who he is said to be.
This is a story of love, loss and pain. But most of all, this story is one that will be past down from generation to generation and will change the village's way of thinking forever.
