Life Gives Strange Roads
One Friday morning at about 5:30 am Mexico City time while getting ready for medical school in my hostel in Reforma, I (Anne Monik Ross Webber) asked my guardian god and friend; the Norse god Loki, who I made a contract with a few months prior for wealth, power, winning the Nobel Prize in Medicine and something else, “Hello Loki, how will my day go?” The small, but extremely powerful god, who likes taking the form of a talking sable with black and white markings on his muzzle and feet Welsh Corgi Pembroke that I can only hear due to an orange dragon looking seal on the top part of my arm where the deltoid muscle is located on the human body, which I learned in the first year of medical school in human anatomy class, replied happily and laughed “Hi Anne. Anne, dear, I see in your future that today, you will meet someone that will be important in your life.” I replied surprised and curious by the response “How..who?!” He replied in a sly matter “You’ll see.” Sighed and replied “Ok.”
Then hurried to the taxi to get to school in Lomas de Chapultepec, but wondered about the vision of the future the whole ride over to the school. After 30 minutes of interesting second-year medical school classes such as Pharmacology, Microbiology, Physiology, I put the whole conversation out of my mind. While outside it was sunny, but not too hot that I needed to remove my white lab coat, and saw my friend Dr. Raúl just waiting for his friend Dra. Sol, to hitch a ride to UNAM, who is also my friend and my professor of Pharmacology, talked about living situations as he asked this “Anne, where do you live?” Replied, “I live in a hostel on Reforma.” He replied surprised “So you live close by? Do you live with family or by yourself? How does it feel when you go back to San Francisco.” Answered honestly, but friendly “Yes, I live close by its two buses away from my home, so about 15 to 20 minutes from here if there are no protests. If there is a protest, it takes God heck knows about the amount of time it will take and he’s not telling me. I have a mixed situation when it comes to living with my family because I live at a hostel, so my family goes in and out. Sometimes when I leave Mexico City for San Francisco it feels weird such as, hearing gossip in English instead of Spanish or being used to ordering food in Spanish instead of English. Raúl, where do you live?” He replied “Can understand that feeling. I live in near UNAM.” After 10 minutes of talking, we started saying our goodbyes, which were kiss on the cheek and a hug as a sign of friendship, right before he went into Dra. Sol’s car he told me “Bye. Be careful especially with the serial murder wandering around!” Right before starting to walk to the bus stop, I said to him “Likewise. Be careful as well!”
