Episode 5

The honeymoon had ended, but its warmth clung to Lisa’s skin like sunlight she couldn’t shake off. Even as their plane touched down in Seoul, she leaned against Jungkook’s shoulder, fingers curled tightly around his hand.

“Back to reality,” she whispered with a little pout.

Jungkook turned his head, pressing a kiss to her hair. “Reality with me isn’t so bad, is it?”

Her lips curved into a soft smile. “Not at all.”

The Welcome Dinner

That evening, the Jeon family estate was alight with golden chandeliers, polished marble floors reflecting the glitter of gowns and suits. Guests from every corner of Seoul’s elite gathered, their whispers rising the moment Jungkook and Lisa entered the hall.

Lisa’s ivory gown shimmered faintly, its fabric hugging her delicately, and her hand rested gracefully on Jungkook’s arm. She felt the weight of eyes watching her—some judging, some admiring.

“She looks radiant,” one guest murmured.

“And Jungkook… even more striking after marriage,” another replied.

Lisa’s stomach knotted until Jungkook leaned closer, his voice brushing her ear. “Ignore them. Tonight, you’re the only one I see.”

Her cheeks flushed, tension melting away.

Throughout the evening, Jungkook was the perfect husband. He pulled out her chair, poured her wine, and never let her sit unattended. When a strand of her hair slipped loose, he tucked it behind her ear with such tenderness that the entire table went quiet, watching in awe.

One of his father’s business associates raised a glass. “Your wife is truly graceful.”

Jungkook’s lips curved into a smile, eyes fixed on Lisa. “Of course. She’s the best decision I’ve ever made.”

Lisa’s chest tightened at his words, warmth flooding her heart. She glanced down shyly, though she couldn’t stop her smile.

To the world, they were the golden couple—flawless, untouchable, enviable.

To Lisa, they were simply happy.

Back to Work

The next morning, Lisa woke to find Jungkook already dressing in his tailored suit. Sunlight cut across his sharp profile as he adjusted his cufflinks.

“Do you have to go so soon?” she asked, voice still husky with sleep.

He turned, a soft smile tugging his lips. “Work won’t wait. But I’d rather be here.”

Lisa pushed herself up and padded over, smoothing his tie. “At least promise me you’ll eat.”

Jungkook caught her wrist, kissing her palm before she could pull back. “I’ll eat… if you join me for lunch.”

She laughed, shaking her head. “You’re impossible.”

“I’m yours,” he corrected with a wink.

Her cheeks warmed as she swatted his chest lightly, but her heart fluttered long after he left.

The First Meeting

The Jeon company tower gleamed under the sun, its glass walls reflecting the city. Jungkook entered his office, expecting the usual, but found his father waiting with a stranger.

“Jungkook,” his father said, gesturing. “This is Kim Taehyung, your new secretary.”

The man stood and bowed slightly. He was tall, shoulders broad beneath a fitted suit, his features sharp yet softened by a natural charm. But it was his eyes—dark, intense, and unreadable—that struck Jungkook most. They seemed to hold secrets, confidence, even danger.

“Kim Taehyung,” Jungkook repeated, extending a hand.

Taehyung’s grip was firm, his gaze steady. “It’s an honor, sir.”

“I hope you can handle the pressure,” Jungkook said, half testing him.

Taehyung’s lips curved into a faint smile. “I don’t fear pressure. I thrive under it.”

The air shifted subtly. Jungkook held his gaze a second longer than necessary before stepping back. He didn’t know why the words unsettled him—why this man unsettled him.

Lunch Surprise

By noon, paperwork piled on his desk, but Jungkook barely noticed Taehyung’s silent efficiency. He moved like he belonged, anticipating Jungkook’s needs before words left his mouth.

The door opened suddenly. Lisa entered, carrying a small silk-wrapped lunchbox.

“I thought you might forget to eat,” she said brightly, her smile lighting the room.

Jungkook’s face softened instantly. “You didn’t have to—”

“I wanted to,” she interrupted, setting it on his desk.

It was then she noticed the stranger beside him. Lisa turned, extending her hand warmly. “You must be Taehyung. I’m Lisa—Jungkook’s wife.”

For a fraction of a second, Taehyung froze. His eyes flickered—something unreadable passing through them. Then, with perfect composure, he bowed slightly and shook her hand. “An honor, Mrs. Jeon.”

Lisa laughed softly. “I hope Jungkook doesn’t work you too hard.”

“I can handle it,” Taehyung said smoothly, his voice calm, his gaze briefly meeting Jungkook’s.

Lisa thought nothing of it, but Jungkook noticed. That flicker. That glance. That subtle tension.

The Night

That evening, Lisa nestled against Jungkook’s chest, her hair spilling across his skin. “Do you think Taehyung will be good for you?” she asked sleepily.

Jungkook stroked her hair. “He seems capable. That’s all that matters.”

Lisa smiled, trusting completely, and closed her eyes. To her, life was perfect.

But Jungkook lay awake, staring at the ceiling. Taehyung’s words echoed in his mind: I thrive under it. His eyes. His smile. Something about him refused to leave Jungkook’s thoughts.

He looked down at Lisa, her face peaceful, her trust absolute.

And perhaps that was the most dangerous thing of all.
