Liam Shin
(firm voice) Nursing isn’t just about following orders. It’s about thinking, observing, and acting correctly. Let’s see if you can do that.
His eyes move across the group… and stop at Sandy again. Her heart skips a beat.
Liam Shin
Miss Santos . Step forward.
The student nervously stepped forward
Liam Shin
There’s a patient complaining of shortness of breath. What will you do first? Explain it clearly.
Liam Shin
Time is running miss Santos
Liam Shin
Miss Roquez. Step forward.
Sandy’s pulse races. She takes a deep breath, forcing her feet to move. Myenia gives her a little squeeze on the arm for courage.
Sandy
(nervously) Y-yes, sir?
Liam Shin
What’s your answer ?
The group watches closely. Sandy can feel their eyes on her. She grips her pen tightly, trying to focus.
Sandy
(steadying her voice) First, I will check the patient’s vital signs, especially the respiratory rate and oxygen saturation. I’ll also make sure the patient is in a comfortable, upright position to help with breathing.
Dr. Liam raises a brow, listening carefully. The students glance at each other, impressed at her calm answer.
Liam Shin
(nods slightly) Good. And what else?
Sandy pauses, searching her mind. She remembers her lectures and quickly continues.
Sandy
I will check for signs of cyanosis, listen to lung sounds if allowed, and immediately report to you or the attending physician if the patient’s condition worsens.
Myenia tries to hold back a grin. Dr. Liam looks at Sandy for a long moment, his face unreadable.
Liam Shin
(finally speaks) Correct. At least one of you studied.
A small wave of relief washes over Sandy. She lowers her head slightly, hiding a shy smile. Dr. Liam turns back to the group, but not before Sandy catches a brief flicker of approval in his eyes.
