After the dinner, the family of four had gone back to their home.

Upon entering, Jake was standing there with the nanny knelt on the floor.

Dax was already asleep, so Mase took him off to his bedroom and tucked him in carefully. He left the room after placing a soft kiss on his nephew's head.

Once he was out in the living room, Mase took a seat on the left-hand side of Cal and then looked at the nanny who was still on the floor.

"So, will you start explaining yourself or should I start counting the days you have left to live?" Declan growled and the nanny shivered.

"I-I was told by someone. You know them." The nanny spoke, her voice trembling.

"Who? Speak up!" Mase snapped.

Callahan was still quiet. He hadn't said a word and he was the father of the child.

"The boy's mother... And her husband. They said, they wanted to take the child's custody somehow, so once the food poisoning is reported, she could come up as the mother and take custody saying you can't take care of him." She sobbed.

"Where is she staying? You have her address?" Mase asked again and the Nanny nodded and passed a small piece of paper to Jake, who took a photograph and sent it to his men.

"Take her phone and turn it off. Get them as soon as possible. Call the police and file a complaint. Give them the address as well. And send her to the station too. Blacklist her name from all the companies. She can't be trusted, spread the word. Don't pay her." Declan ordered.

"Got it." Jake answered and dragged the nanny out.

Callahan was still silent. The brothers looked at him. No on spoke.

"I will go see Dax. Go to sleep. Good night." Cal spoke and left.

"I swear to God, that woman is going in for a long, long time. And I will spread the word in the prison. She won't last long." Mase gritted through his teeth.

Callahan entered the room, changed his clothes and got on the bed besides his son. Feeling the warmth radiating, Dax automatically shifted closer to his Dad. Cal pulled him close to his chest and kissed his head.

And then his eyes watered. He cried, alone, in silence. His little one had suffered a lot since birth. He'd never regretted once since his birth.

He had promised that two day old baby, that he would do everything in his power to keep him safe. But he had failed today.

"I'm sorry baby. I'm so sorry." He held the little one and kissed his head again.

Next Day-

Since there was no school for Dax, no one woke up early. But it wasn't the same for August.

He got ready, cooked pancakes and packed them in a big lunch box. He poured some maple syrup and added some berries to them and then set out to the given address.

Upon reaching, he called Cal, who answered very quickly.

"Sage, are you here?" He sounded happier than he expressed and August's heart warmed up.

"Yeah, did I wake you up?" He asked softly, but the other side didn't answer, rather opened the door.

"No, you didn't wake us up. We get up by this time. Come on in." Cal stepped back and let him enter.

"Morning Mase, Declan." August smiled and walked straight into the kitchen.

"Morning Sage, it's nice to see you here. That... Smells heavenly." Mase teased.

"Of course it does, I got breakfast for my favorite people. Hurry up, while they're hot." August laughed and Mase helped with getting plates.

"Is my baby awake? Was he okay last night?" August asked Cal who was next to him and he gave a nod.

"Not a good morning, is it? You look worried." August's voice dropped to a level softer.

"All good. Thanks for the breakfast. But don't make it a habit." Cal spoke unhurried.

"Why? It's a good habit, ain't it? And if you enjoy the food I cook, then I won't mind cooking all three meals for you guys. My grandmom used to say, that they wanted a girl, but I was born. So naturally I am a nurturer. I love taking care of people. And didn't I just say, my favorite people... Come on, less talk, more food."

August sat and watched all three of them and then his eyes moved to Cal. He slowly moved his hand and placed it on Cal's on the table.

"How about you stop worrying now and focus on eating. If you're worried about Dax, don't be. I called school earlier and said I won't be coming in for a week. Later, I will take Dax to my place and you can be rest assured, yeah?"

"Okay. Thank you." Cal replied with a smile which wasn't exactly a smile, but August accepted it.

Once they were done with breakfast, August cleaned up and let them go get ready for work. When he was left alone, he realized that he had grown closer to these people and not just Dax.

These three men didn't seem bad at all. All were kind and welcoming. Only if he knew that these same three men were about to make someone pay for their sins.

Before they left, Cal stayed behind after his brothers left. August saw him lingering around and walked towards him.

"Cal, did you need anything?" August asked and Cal didn't have words to answer.

After a lot of hesitation, he finally asked.

"After you're done with the divorce, would you... Would you want to give us a chance?" Cal asked and then looked at August straight in his eyes.

August was shocked, he didn't know what to answer. Just yesterday he had told Mase, that he wouldn't for now. But would it be bad to try once again? At least for Dax's sake. Now that he saw him fall sick, August's heart didn't feel at ease and he wanted to be as close as he could be.

"Can I answer you once you're back from work? I will think of it. You know what I'm going through at the moment. So I don't want to rush. We can take it slow. But let me think, yeah?" August looked at Cal with eyes that said 'please, say yes'.

"Okay, take your time. I want to thank you for whatever your answer would be." Cal answered and smiled.

August felt a bit overwhelmed and he slowly moved closer to Cal and wrapped his arms around his waist.

Cal was a bit taller than August, so his chin rested perfectly on August's head.

Cal had initially stiffened up, but soon relaxed and wrapped his arm around August almost very protectively. And August felt it. A small smile made its way to his lips.

"Then... Come home soon. Dax and I will for you. I don't know what it is, but I... I just want all three of you to come home safe. Hm?" August spoke more softly, almost a whisper.

"I promise." Cal said and then kissed August's forehead before leaving with a smile on his face.
