Chapter 4: Love Letters Aren’t Always for You
It started with a crumpled note.
Not a love letter — not really — just a half-written message that Jungkook had scribbled and abandoned.
Taehyung found it on JK’s desk one afternoon while helping clean up their shared room at the Jeon estate.
"You’re beautiful. I don’t know how to say this in person, but I like the way you laugh…”

Taehyung stared at it for a long time.
He read it twice. Three times.
And then folded it carefully, placed it in Jungkook’s sketchbook, and told himself to not be the kind of person who wished it had been meant for him.
Jungkook said later that evening, walking into the kitchen where Tae was helping Seokjin chop vegetables.
Jungkook looked awkward — for once not cocky or smooth. His hand scratched the back of his neck, eyes darting to the floor.
Jeon Jungkook
I need your help.
Jeon Jungkook
I wanna ask Jimin out.
The knife in Taehyung’s hand hit the chopping board a little harder than necessary.
Jeon Jungkook
I suck at words and…
Jeon Jungkook
You’re good at sweet stuff.
Jungkook looked at him then — eyes wide, hopeful, like he had no idea what he was asking.
Like he didn’t know Taehyung would’ve written a thousand love letters just to hear Jungkook say his name like that.
Tae smiled, soft and small.
Kim Taehyung
Okay. I’ll help.
The next day, they sat in the school courtyard with notebooks open.
Kim Taehyung
What about this?
Kim Taehyung
Tell him you like how he hums when he’s nervous.
Jungkook scribbled it down.
Jeon Jungkook
You really think he’ll like this?
Jeon Jungkook
You’re the best.
Jungkook said without looking up.
He smiled even as his heart broke. Because those three words — you’re the best — weren’t said like I love you. They were said like thank you for helping me love someone else.
By Friday, the letter was ready.
Jungkook slipped it into Jimin’s locker. He ran back to Taehyung, breathless and grinning.

Wanna bet she says yes?
Kim Taehyung
I hope she does.
Kim Taehyung
"Of course not."
Because if Jungkook was happy… then that would have to be enough.
