Chapter 2: The Scent of Something New
By the time they turned thirteen, the world had started to notice the difference between Jeon Jungkook, the alpha heir, and Kim Taehyung, the maid’s omega son.
The boys didn’t notice it — not at first.
They still ate lunch together. Still climbed the old oak tree in the Jeon backyard and threw apples at each other until Seokjin scolded them from the kitchen window.
Someone whispered in the school hallway.

That Jeon Jungkook’s always with him?
Taehyung had heard it. He hadn’t said anything.
Jungkook, meanwhile, was unaware. Or maybe he was just uninterested in gossip.
He slung an arm around Taehyung’s shoulder easily, casually, like he didn’t feel the stares.

You’re getting taller.
He noted one afternoon, as they walked home from school together.
Jeon Jungkook
Soon I’ll have to look up at you, and that’ll ruin my whole alpha vibe.
Kim Taehyung
You’ll always be scarier than me.
Jeon Jungkook
I’m not scary.
Kim Taehyung
You punched Jackson last week.
Jeon Jungkook
He called you a stray.
Taehyung stopped walking.
Jungkook glanced at him, surprised.
Kim Taehyung
You… punched him for me?
Jungkook frowned, eyes darkening a little.
Jeon Jungkook
You’re mine.
Taehyung’s heart did that thing again — like it forgot how to beat and then tried to catch up all at once.
He looked away, cheeks burning.
Kim Taehyung
Don’t say that.
Kim Taehyung
I’m not… yours.
Jungkook said, proud and oblivious.
Jeon Jungkook
And I like my Tae.
That night, Taehyung lay in bed staring at the ceiling.
His body was starting to change. He’d begun taking blockers recently — his first heat wasn’t far off, and the school required all omegas to start suppressants.
His mother had been gentle about it, as always, but her hands had trembled when she gave him the pills.
'You have to be careful' she had said.
'Alphas can be kind when they’re young… but things change. People change.'
He didn’t want Jungkook to change.
But deep down, part of him knew… things were changing.
He was starting to feel things. Strong things. Soft things. Wanting things.
And he didn’t know if Jungkook would ever feel the same.
