The glass windows glowed amber with soft yellow lights, shadows dancing gently behind them. It wasn’t much. Not polished. Not branded.
But it looked… warm. Alive. Safe.
He didn’t think twice. He pushed his car door open and dashed through the rain, tuxedo darkening with every drop.
His tall frame entered the café with quiet dominance, water dripping off his sleeves.
Shoulders broad, presence sharp—he didn’t belong in a place this simple.
But he was here.
He stepped in and let the warmth settle against his cold skin, eyes scanning the quiet space. Just two people behind the counter.

“Good evening, sir,” a girl’s voice greeted politely.

He looked at her—soft smile, gentle eyes—and gave a small nod.
But his gaze drifted past her.
The boy beside her, wearing a plain black cap pulled low over his face. Slim, calm, a novel open in his hands.
He didn’t look up. Didn’t greet him. Didn’t even flinch.
Just turned a page slowly, like Zeyan didn’t exist.

That silence.It hit him.
Not loud. Not sharp. But present.
Zeyan approached the counter, gaze locked on the boy who didn’t look back.

“I’ll have a black coffee,” he said, voice calm but laced with something… curious.
(mc) colleague
The girl nodded. “Please, take a seat, sir. I’ll bring it to you.”
He sat around table a corner one, but even as he sat, his mind didn’t wander.
His focus remained.
On him. The boy with the book, who didn’t ask questions, who didn’t meet eyes, who didn’t need to speak.
The girl whispered to him, “Black coffee,” and he moved—without a word, without lifting his gaze.
His hands started the process—precise, practiced.
Still not a glance. Still no voice.
Wei Zeyan leaned back in his chair.
Something inside him stirred. Something unfamiliar.
He liked silence.But this…
This silence stared back without ever looking at him.
