“But child they said that land is cursed! What if bad luck falls on us?” Gemma worriedly said.
Faith knew her grandma will be the first one to protest. She is very sensitive especially in bad lucks and curses. She heard last time when her grandma was sick she prefer to seek advice from Taoist priests than to doctors. Her father had no choice but to follow that priest’s divine instructions while still seeking help from the doctors.
“Grandma, that is just hearsay, and what if it’s good luck instead? Look, in my generation I will never believe in bad luck, good luck, warnings from hermits, ancient beliefs, and even gods that you, sorry, old people believe and fear. If in case our business will not do good after I build a factory on that land, I won’t blame bad luck but instead, I will blame me for not managing our business in my best efforts. So as a businesswoman I won’t be afraid of bad hearsays. I prefer the practicality.” Faith explained.
“But child don’t underestimate the power of curses. It might be a business win because it’s cheap but what if something unexplainable happened to our workers there? What if for worst, they died for nothing? I mean what if they died because of that land’s curse? A smart business person does not only seek for a business win but also ensure her worker’s safety.” Mitchery preached.
He is right, aside from business win her worker’s safety is also a priority because who will work for them from now on if it in case something happened?
“You are right granddad, I’m sorry for being greedy. I think we should hire a priest first to pray so that everyone will be happy but after that, we will continue with the project. I can’t give up on that land because… It’s just because.”
“Just because?” Mitchery asked confused.
“Just because I feel something special on that land. I can smell… good luck?” Faith question herself. She can’t put into words what the gut feeling she has on that land.
“Well, that’s my daughter!” Harold proudly said with a clap. Unlike his parents, Harold is more practical although he respected his parents about their old fashion believes he does not believe them seriously.
“As I was saying Faith was building a factory in there. However, when the workers are digging that land they discovered a tomb-”
“A tomb?!” Faith and Gemma exclaimed.
“Excuse me.” Gemma even coughed the wine she’s drinking.
“Yes, a tomb I- “
“Wait, Dad! How come there’s a tomb there? How come I don’t know? I’m the head of that project I should be the first one to know that.” Faith exclaimed. Unbelievable my workers kept me in the dark I will definitely punish them later.
“Firstly, I don’t know why there’s a tomb in there maybe because of your ‘just because of’ feelings? Secondly, do you remember Dwight and Kenjie? Your head engineers?” Harold asked.
“Yeah, according to you they are the best and I believed that. I don’t know if you are just being biased, is it because they were your classmates? But to what they did to me, by keeping me in the dark, Huh, I’m changing my mind.” Faith said with a tone of disappointment.
“Well, forgive them Faith... At that time, I called them to see how’s work and they reported what they discovered. It is I, who instructed them to keep you in the dark. I want to investigate first if I sorted that out. I just didn’t expect you to react this way. I’m sorry.” Harold said as he is amusing himself on how her daughter reacts.
“Hey stop it!” Janine-her mom warned. Harold just loves to tease her daughter in any way when he has the chance. Her reactions are just like his wife.
“Okay, whatever.” Faith said with her eyes rolled.
“Going back, they discovered a tomb there and it wasn’t just any tomb. According to the experts, it belongs to a royal family. It can be the wife of some rich official once upon a time, it can be a princess or even an empress. They are not sure who she is exactly so it is still on investigation.”
“Then how did you know it was a ‘she’?” Mitchery curiously asked.
“When my workers navigated the area they found the corpse. They studied the bones and it belongs to a woman”
“But that’s a tomb! She won’t be happy if we disturb her rest.” Gemma said with fear. Sigh, again with her beliefs.
“I agree.” Mitchery second the motioned.
“Yes, that is our beliefs… in ancient times. But today that tomb is only a relic of a bygone age. It’s a part of our history. And besides the woman’s soul who is sleeping, there might be already reincarnated. Maybe she is already living her second life somewhere, right?” Harold said as he looks at her daughter. He knows her daughter will help him to contend his parent’s strong beliefs in curses.
Faith’s heart accelerated, she wasn’t sure why but it happened when her father said about second life.
“Yes, grandma. Don’t worry I’m sure my father will take care of that dead woman’s body with dignity after all she might be a princess. And besides, as I’ve told you I prefer practicality than to be scared of some dead woman’s curse.”
“Okay, then,” Gemma said with both hands up. “I give up. Do whatever you want but- “She pointed her finger to Harold and Faith. “Don’t come to me crying later on ‘cause I will say, ‘I told you so.”
