After they returned home, Jonah finally took a shower—more accurately, Dominic had all but forced him into it. The warm water did little to ease the heaviness in his chest, but at least it rinsed off the hospital air.
Once out of the bathroom, Jonah wandered aimlessly around the room. Their room. It had always been shared—his and Noah’s.
Noah had never liked being apart from him. Even as a child, he clung to Jonah like a shadow, refusing to sleep in a separate room, even when their parents were alive. Jonah had been his anchor, his comfort, his constant. And though Jonah wasn’t the expressive type, deep down, the bond ran just as deep for him.
Noah wasn’t just his elder brother. He was his whole world. They didn’t just grow up together—they grew into each other, maturing like twin vines wrapped tightly around the same core.

Just then, he felt a familiar warmth behind him. Dominic had entered the room silently, wrapping his arms gently around Jonah’s waist. He leaned in, pressing a long, tender kiss to the side of Jonah’s neck—a silent offering of comfort in the quiet ache.
Jonah didn’t move, didn’t speak. He just let himself lean back slightly into the embrace, as if trying to borrow a little strength.

Dominic broke the hug abruptly, stepping back without a word. His eyes were cast down, jaw clenched so tightly it trembled. He bit down hard on his lower lip, a feeble attempt to dam the fury building inside him.
He turned and walked out of the room, each step heavy with tension. He didn’t trust himself to speak. Not now. Not with the thoughts storming in his head—dark, irrational, dangerous.
A part of him wanted to drive straight to the hospital, to face Noah, to do something—anything—that would make the pain in his chest feel justified. Something he knew he wouldn't regret… but something that would shatter Jonah. And for all the rage he felt, Dominic wasn’t sure if he could live with that.
