It had been two days since Noah was hospitalized, and he still hadn’t opened his eyes. The steady beeping of the monitors was the only sign that he was still holding on. The doctor had spoken carefully, choosing his words with a hint of hesitation.

Physically, he’s stable, but it’s as if his mind doesn’t want to wake up. Sometimes, when the trauma runs deep—especially if the cause is unknown—the body recovers, but the will... doesn’t follow

Jonah sat by Noah’s side every hour he could, watching, waiting—wishing he knew what ghosts haunted his brother’s silence.

Noah had been moved to a ward, the machines fewer now, the room quieter—but the weight in Jonah’s chest hadn’t lifted. He sat beside the bed, hunched forward in a stiff plastic chair, his hands wrapped tightly around Noah’s. Desperation clung to him like a second skin.
