Football Life
Series Name: Football Life
Episode 1 Title: A Star Is Born
Date: May 5, 1998
Setting: A small public hospital in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
🏥 Scene 1: The Birth
In the quiet early hours of May 5, 1998, we meet a couple inside the maternity ward of a modest hospital.
The man is Chinedu Obasi, a kind-hearted, ambitious Nigerian who moved to Brazil years ago chasing a football dream.
The woman is Isabela Fernández Rocha, a beautiful and strong-willed woman of Brazilian and Argentine descent, who runs a tricycle (keke) business and absolutely loves football.
They already have two beautiful daughters:
Camila Obasi
Valentina Obasi
Now, Isabela is in labor with their third child.
🩺 The Labor Scene:
Isabela is sweating, gripping Chinedu’s hand tightly. Nurses guide her through the process.
Nurse: “Push, senhora, push!”
Chinedu whispers prayers in Igbo, “Chineke, biko mee ka ọ dịrị ya mfe…”
After intense pushing, the sound of a newborn baby crying fills the room.
Doctor: “It’s a boy!”
Tears roll down Chinedu’s cheeks. Isabela smiles weakly.
👶 The Naming:
Back in the room, holding the baby close, Chinedu looks into his son’s eyes.
Chinedu: “I will name you Thiago Chukwuebuka Obasi.”
Thiago – a common South American name, popular in Brazil and Argentina, meaning “May God protect.”
Chukwuebuka – an Igbo name from Nigeria meaning “God is great.”
Isabela (smiling): “Beautiful name… for a future legend.”
⚽ Chinedu's Football Past:
Chinedu played as an amateur striker for a small community team called Rio Verde FC, based in a local favela. He never made it pro, but his passion for football burns strong.
🏡 Life at Home:
Even though they are poor, the family lives with pride, laughter, and love. They gift baby Thiago a tiny plastic football as his first toy. At just three years old, in 2000, Thiago runs around the small living room, kicking the ball into walls.
📺 2000: Thiago’s First Football Memory
One afternoon, watching a football documentary on their old box TV, Thiago points at the screen.
Thiago: “Mama! I want to see Madrona play with Zidane and Ronaldo!”
Isabela (laughing): “Aww, meu amor… Maradona has retired. You’re a little late.”
Thiago (pouting): “Ohhh…”
Then he picks up his ball and keeps playing, pretending to be all three legends at once—dribbling like Maradona, passing like Zidane, and scoring like Ronaldo.

Episode 2 Title: Thiago and the Camera Dream
Year: 2005
Thiago’s Age: 7
⚽ Street Football and Dreams
Thiago, now 7 years old, is full of energy and passion for football. He plays every evening on the dusty streets of their neighborhood in Rio de Janeiro. His ball? A rough one made of:
Old rags
Gum
Tied up with a wrapper
He calls it "Bola de Sonho" (Dream Ball).
📱 Discovery of YouTube (2005)
One day, Thiago is home early after playing. He sees his mother’s old Motorola flip phone charging.
Curious, he picks it up and opens the browser (slow and old-style). Somehow, he stumbles on a newly created website.
Thiago (reading aloud slowly): “You…Tube…”
It was actually meant to be a video dating platform in its early days, but Thiago, being innocent and 7 years old, has no clue. He just sees it as a place where you can upload videos.
🧠 Creating His Channel
Thiago decides to make an account.

When it asks:
"Describe yourself (Must be 13 or older)"
Thiago lies and types:
“I am 14. I love football. I will be a star. Ronaldinho is my uncle.” 😅
He doesn’t understand how to create a banner, so he skips it.
For the profile picture, he places his homemade rag ball gently on the ground, uses the phone camera, and snaps a picture. That becomes his official channel pic.
🎥 First Video Ever – "Thiago's Penalty King"
Thiago grabs the phone again one afternoon and calls his neighbor and best friend, Mateo Rodriguez, to be the goalkeeper.
They go to a dusty area beside a wall with two big stones as goalposts.
Thiago places the ball.
He takes three small steps back, runs…
BOOM! He shoots it to the bottom-left corner.
Mateo dives right—too late. GOAL!
Thiago (cheering): “GOOOOOAAALLLLL!”
He records everything—shaky but loud. At the end, he says:
“Subscribe or… I cry!”
He posts it immediately and titles it:
“MY FIRST PENALTY – Thiago Football Channel ⚽🔥”
Even though no one watches it yet, he smiles and whispers:
“This is just the beginning.”
Wanna continue with Episode 3—maybe when Thiago starts getting attention in the neighborhood?
