Chapter 6

He had simply let people believe he had.

Fake accounts flooded the internet with cryptic messages:

"I heard kira only writes your name if you refuse to confess"

"If kira knows your crime, it's already too

late."

"Some say the death note can control

people before they die..."

People ate it up. The idea that kira had

envolved beyond just killing? That was

far more terrifying then the death itself.

And just like that, Hikaru's legend was

growing ---without him lifting a finger.

Near Takes Notice

Inside a dimly lit office, Near sat cross-legged on a white couch, surrounded by stacks of files. He watched the news silently, his fingers twirling a single chess piece between them.

Beside him, a young SPK agent spoke hesitantly. “Sir, the public believes Kira is back. But… there are no confirmed deaths. Just people resigning or disappearing. It doesn’t make sense.”

Near’s blank eyes didn’t waver from the screen. “That’s what makes it dangerous.”

The agent frowned. “You think it’s a copycat?”

Near placed the chess piece down. “No. A copycat would have started killing immediately, trying to mimic the old Kira. This… is different.”

He turned to the agent. “This is someone who understands fear. Someone who knows that people can be controlled without a single name being written.”

The agent swallowed. “Then how do we stop them?”

Near stared at the flickering screen.

“That’s what I intend to find out.”

The First True Kill

Hikaru knew the next phase had to be perfect. He had built an illusion—now he needed to remind the world that Kira was real.

He carefully selected his next target:

Yusuke Hoshino. A powerful businessman who had been laundering money for politicians. He had remained untouchable for years, protected by wealth and influence.

Hikaru picked up his pen and began writing:

"Yusuke Hoshino will hold a press conference, admitting his crimes in full detail. After his confession, he will return home, write a letter exposing other corrupt officials, and then take his own life."

He closed the notebook.

And then, he waited.

The press conference was everywhere.

Yusuke Hoshino stood at a podium, his face pale, his hands shaking. His voice trembled as he listed every crime he had committed—bribery, embezzlement, fraud. He gave dates, names, bank accounts. The audience sat in stunned silence.

When it was over, he walked off stage without another word.

That night, police found him dead in his home. Beside him, a letter—one that exposed even more names.

The country was in chaos.

And this time, there was no doubt.

Kira was back.

Near’s First Move

Near watched the broadcast, his expression unreadable. He reached for his chessboard, moving a single piece forward.

“This new Kira…” he murmured. “He isn’t just killing.”

He placed another piece down.

“He’s making people destroy themselves.”

He leaned back, staring at the board.

“Which means I’m not dealing with another Light Yagami.”

Near picked up a white knight and studied it.

“I’m dealing with something worse.”
