Chapter 5

Hikaru Tanaka sat in his room, the soft hum of his laptop filling the quiet space. The Death Note lay open on his desk, it's black pages untouched for the past few hours. He didn’t need to write anything just yet. No, he had learned from Light Yagami’s mistakes—recklessness led to suspicion, and suspicion led to downfall.

Instead, he watched.

The news was still flooded with reports of Hajime Kuroda’s sudden death. The media buzzed with speculation—some called it justice, others called it karma. But there was one question on everyone’s lips: Was Kira back?

Hikaru smirked as he scrolled through an online forum. The theories varied—some believed it was a government conspiracy, others thought a new vigilante group had emerged. But none of them had even considered the truth.

That’s exactly how he wanted it.

Ryuk, who had been hovering near the ceiling, finally broke the silence. “You haven’t used the Death Note in a while.”

Hikaru didn’t look away from his screen. “I don’t need to. Not yet.”

Ryuk chuckled, floating down to sit cross-legged in the air. “Light Yagami would’ve written a hundred names by now.”

Hikaru finally glanced up, his sharp eyes meeting Ryuk’s glowing yellow ones. “And that’s why he lost.”

The Shinigami tilted his head. “Oh?”

Hikaru leaned back, folding his arms. “Light thought Kira had to be feared. He believed that by killing criminals, he could make the world obedient. But he never understood the real power of control.” He gestured to the screen. “I haven’t written a single name in two days, yet the world is already bending to my will.”

Ryuk let out a deep, amused laugh. “You’re enjoying this, aren’t you?”

Hikaru didn’t answer. He simply smiled.

The Whisper Campaign Begins

Hikaru knew that to truly take control, he needed to create more than fear—he needed doubt. If people feared Kira, they would resist him. If they doubted reality itself, they would crumble.

He opened a blank document and began typing:

> A killer is only as powerful as the mystery around them. The more unpredictable I am, the more dangerous I become. The moment the world thinks it understands me, I become weak.

He stopped typing and closed the document. He already knew his next move.

Three days later, a trending topic swept across Japan.

#TheWhisper

It had started as a small rumor—anonymous social media accounts claimed that certain high-profile figures were acting strangely. A CEO who had been accused of fraud suddenly resigned without explanation. A local politician, once known for corruption, withdrew from the upcoming election and disappeared from the public eye. None of them had died. None of them had even received direct threats.

But the fear of Kira was making them crumble.

The real genius of Hikaru’s plan was that he didn’t even have to write their names.
