The Savior
The city was suffocating, its alleys twisted like a labyrinth of shadows.
I ran, my heart pounding, breath ragged. But I wasn’t fast enough. The priests caught up to me.
???
*calmly* Miss Carter, please… you’re frightened. We understand. But running like this? It’s reckless. Come back with us before something terrible happens.
???
*urgent* Father Grace is willing to forgive this. We all are. You don’t understand what’s at stake—you are the Holy Maiden! This is bigger than you, bigger than any of us.
Elise Carter
*shaking, backing away* No… I won’t go back. I know what he wants. I know what you all want.
???
*voice hardening* We only want to protect you. Think, Miss Carter. Where will you go? Out here, you are alone. The city is full of dangers, of creatures lurking in the dark. You think we’re the monsters, but there are worse things out there.
Then, suddenly—a roar. A motorcycle’s engine split the silence like a war cry. Headlights pierced the darkness.
And then—Adrian was there.
???
*gasping* T-The hell is that?
Black leather, his eyes burning. He barely spared me a glance before dismounting, his entire focus shifting to the priests. His snarl revealed sharp fangs.
Elise Carter
*whispering* Adrian…
And then—he moved. A blur of raw power and merciless precision.
???
*gurgling* H-He’s a monster—
A man lunged. Adrian sidestepped, his hand shooting out—gripping the attacker’s throat. With terrifying ease, he lifted him, throwing him into the others. A sickening crack followed.
???
*desperate, pulling a gun* Stay back, you demon!
Adrian was faster. In a blink, he wrenched the weapon away. The man barely had time to scream before Adrian’s fangs sank into his neck. Blood sprayed across the asphalt.
Elise Carter
*covering mouth, eyes wide* (Oh my god… he’s…)
The last man tried to run. Adrian didn’t let him.
Then, without hesitation, he snapped the man’s neck.
A heavy silence settled over the alley.
Elise Carter
*shaking, hugging herself* (It’s over. It’s done. But… he didn’t even hesitate.)
Adrian turned to me. His chest heaved, eyes burning with something wild.
He took a step forward. I took one back.
Adrian Verlais
*low, sharp* Why did you sneak out? Where were you?
Elise Carter
*teary-eyed* I—I didn’t mean to—
His gaze flicked over my torn clothes. His expression darkened.
Adrian Verlais
*dangerously quiet* What happened? Who did this to you?
Elise Carter
*swallowing hard, unable to answer*
His fingers twitched—rage barely contained.
Adrian Verlais
*cursing under his breath* Damn it, Elise…
His hands moved, trailing down to the hem of my shirt. His touch burned, searing through the thin fabric. My breath hitched as he leaned in, his scent—blood, leather, something dark and intoxicating—wrapping around me like a spell.
Then his lips crushed against mine.
Elise Carter
*gasping, clinging to him* (His hands, those hands that just—killed… are holding me like I’m fragile.)
A loud voice shattered the moment.
Daniel Reed
*furious* Elise!
Adrian tensed. His arms tightened around me as we turned.
Daniel stood at the alley’s entrance, his face a mask of shock and fury. His gaze darted from me to Adrian, then to the bloodied corpses on the ground. Horror filled his eyes.
Daniel Reed
*shocked* What the hell is this?!
Elise Carter
*hesitating, unable to answer*
Adrian Verlais
*mocking* What does it look like?
Daniel Reed
*rage-filled* You’re a vampire.
Adrian Verlais
*tilting his head, smirking* Took you long enough.
Daniel Reed
*demanding* Elise, what are you doing out here? Elise, what happened to you?! *noticing her torn clothes, glaring at Adrian* Did he do this to you?!
Elise Carter
*eyes widening* No! Daniel, wait—
Daniel Reed
*shaking with fury* You bastard! You killed that priest, didn’t you?! He was protecting her, and you—
Adrian’s eyes narrowed. Realization dawned.
Adrian Verlais
*coldly* You. You were the one behind her disappearance. This is your fault.
Daniel tensed, pulling something from his coat—a silver blade etched with holy symbols.
Daniel Reed
*lunging* Stay away from her!
But Adrian was faster. His grip closed around Daniel’s wrist before the knife could even reach him. His eyes flashed, grip tightening.
Elise Carter
*grabbing Adrian’s arm* Adrian, stop!
For a second—just a second—something shifted. The predator faded. The man surfaced. With a sharp exhale, Adrian released Daniel, shoving him back.
Adrian Verlais
Consider yourself lucky.
Daniel Reed
*staggering, voice shaking* You’re a monster.
Adrian Verlais
*smirking* Maybe. But I’m her monster.
Elise Carter
*face burning* (Why… why does that make my heart race?)
Daniel’s face wavered—shock, heartbreak, fury. Guilt coiled in my stomach. But I couldn’t stay.
Adrian shrugged off his jacket, draping it over my shoulders
Adrian Verlais
*softly* Put this on.
His warmth, his scent—wrapped around me like a shield. Then, he held out a helmet, fingers brushing mines as I took it.
Elise Carter
*hesitating—then climbing onto the bike, wrapping arms around his waist.*
Daniel called my name, but I didn’t look back.
As we sped away, the wind howled past us, carrying with it the weight of everything I’d just seen, everything I’d just felt.
Elise Carter
(Who is Adrian? A monster? A savior? And why, despite everything… do I feel safer with him than I ever have before?)
