"Wait for me outside?" I say to Damian.
"You're not moving," Fabian says to him, "I'm in charge in this house."
I nod, grab my backpack, and leave the house. Damian catches up to me running.
"He's an idiot," he tells me, and I nod, "Sometimes I understand him, look, many would like to be in your place and your sister gave up the position without a problem, I don't understand if she didn't want to leave here," he says, covering his mouth as if he had said too much.
"What are you saying?" I say. "Had Tania already come?"
"I don't know if I should tell you," he says, seeing that I cross my arms, stopping him to look at him.
He raises his hands in surrender.
"Tania was coming and they would go out."
"What?" I say.
"Yes, Tania would come to pick him up and they would get lost for hours."
I nod, walking.
"When I found out they were getting married I was happy for him, I thought maybe Tania would take away the seriousness with which he is always seen."
"My sister never told me anything," I say.
"You never really know people."
He stops a taxi and we get in together.
We don't talk on the way, we arrive at the university and each of us goes to our classes separately. When I leave I notice that I have a missed call from my father.
I stop a taxi, but first, I let Damian know.
"Can you explain what you signed?" I say.
"I just found out," my father says, "this is total shit," he shouts.
"It is," I say.
I sit in the dining room, take a bite of an apple, there is a knock at the door and it's Damian.
My father lets him in, my mother serves us food and I notice she's acting strange.
When we finish, Damian shows me his cell phone with a call from his father.
I say goodbye to my parents and return with Damian, he drops me off at the apartment, and I don't go in, I stay outside. I see several trucks parking and Fabian getting out, adjusting the collar of his shirt.
He looks at me and walks past, ignoring me.
I get tired of standing and decide to go in.
I go straight to the bedroom, hear the shower running, and open my laptop. I'm studying to support my dad in the family business, I'm working on my thesis, when I see Fabian coming out of the bathroom, only in pants, shirtless, and water dripping on his skin.
I turn my eyes back to my laptop, ignoring him.
He goes out to the balcony with his cell phone, comes back and I'm already getting ready to sleep.
I see him walk to the closet and put on clothes and shoes, where is he going so late? I wonder.
He leaves the room and I stretch out on the bed.
It's better for me that he's not here, I tell myself.
I get comfortable to sleep and the next morning I'm ready to go out but they don't let me leave.
"It's the boss's orders," the guard tells me.
"Can you take me to the company so I can talk to him?"
He dials on his cell phone, nods, hanging up.
"The boss is busy, he can't see you, find something to do," he tells me.
I go back inside, take out my cell phone and send a message to Damian.
It doesn't take long for him to call me.
"I'm in class, but my mother is on her way there," he says.
"Listen, the last thing I want is for them to find out that I'm being held captive," I say.
"No one believes that, I'll leave you because the teacher has arrived," he says, hanging up.
I walk around the room, I go to the bookshelf and I am drawn to a book that I saw in my sister's room once, I know there are many, but the fact that it has a dedication convinces me that it is hers, I open it.
"For: The man of my life."
*From: Tania.*
I read the first paragraph and it talks about a commoner who fell in love with a king, he changed many laws for her.
The door opens and I drop the book out of nervousness when I see Fabian enter, he looks at the book on the floor and looks at me as if he wants to strangle me, with big steps he reaches me grabbing my arm tightly,
"Who do you think you are grabbing my things?" He says.
I feel his anger in the way he squeezes me, I adjust the grip, try to break free and have him release me, ending up making me lose my balance and fall.
He bends down picking up the book and leaves taking it.
I don't know what just happened.
I get up and the door opens again.
"Hello," his mother enters, looking me over, "let's go to my house," she says.
I leave with her, we get in the car and I notice how she is dressed, a very classy woman.
I enter her house with her and see many people mobilized,
"I'll make a dinner," she says.
I nod and stand still.
"Dear, sit down," she says.
"Did you get along with my sister?" I say.
"When you are a mother, you do everything to please your son's partner."
I watch her go upstairs.
"I told you they have you chained up," Damian says, laughing.
"Did your mother like my sister?"
"Everyone liked Tania, she was a woman who got along well with everyone, not so much with me but oh well, I'm going to leave my things," he says, leaving.
"Miss Tania," a cleaning girl says to me, "It's so nice to see you."
"Tania is my sister, my name is Diana," I say.
She leaves embarrassed, I curse the resemblance we have despite being half-sisters, it seems that we are twins, we take a lot from my mother.
"My son's partners will come and he tells me to have you ready for the occasion, a dress has already been sent for you and it's in the room where my son stays whenever he stays."
I nod, going upstairs, I take a shower and they put makeup on me, when I'm alone I see the dress they left me, it's very beautiful, I look at myself in the mirror and my arm is red from this morning, I look in the closet and end up finding many dresses, I take one that covers that area, it's a little big on me, there's a knock on the door.
"Madam, come down now," they tell me.
I go out and everyone's gaze is on me, several disguise the grace, and others the surprise, I don't know why, but I don't care, I keep going down and my mother-in-law approaches me.
"I understand that you are angry with my son, you know that the impression you make will be reflected in him," she says.
She looks at the dress I'm wearing, and I see her walk away quickly.
I am taken by the arm by Fabian, who takes me to a remote hallway, people see us and I hear them murmur.
"What right do you have to put on those clothes?" he yells at me.
"I just took it."
"It doesn't even fit you," he says, "you want to be like Tania so much that you resort to wearing her clothes," he yells at me.
I am surprised by what he says, leaving, and I stand there.
Those dresses are my sister's, I go out to the garden they have, I didn't even realize I started crying, I dry my tears, and I sit on a bench.
"I've always said it, he's an idiot."
"Yes, he is," I say.
Damian laughs, approaching and sits next to me.
He puts his arm around my shoulders and hugs me, I feel it like a hug from brothers, of friendship, I rest my head on his shoulder and that's how we stay.
