"Sis-in-law," Damian says to me, "come on, we have to buy clothes there, I've always wanted to dress up with someone."
"And your girlfriend?" my mother-in-law asks.
"Good, thanks," he says, laughing.
"Hey, Damian, I don't want any more fights between you and your brother," she says to him.
We go into a store and he looks for two suits, takes them to the cashier to pay for them. We leave and
"Do you want to buy something special?" my mother-in-law says to me.
"No, I have enough clothes," I say, smiling at her.
"We have to go back," she tells us. "Damian, your father wants you in the office."
"I can't, I'm going to uni," he says.
"You go to your father first and then do whatever you want."
We get back in the car and stop at the company where Fabian is.
"Don't you want to go in and see my son?" my mother-in-law asks, and I shake my head.
"I'm tired, I want to go and rest."
The car starts and they leave me at the apartment after dropping Damian off at the company and my mother-in-law goes home.
"Madam, your suitcases are in your room," a cleaning girl tells me.
"Thank you," I say to her.
I go up to the room and find my things, I start taking them out, putting everything in order.
I take a shower, putting on some short shorts with a baggy blouse, I lie down on the bed looking at my cell phone, I have to go to take an exam at the university and I remember that Damian commented something like that, maybe he can help me, I think, with that idea I don't even realize when I fall asleep until they knock on the door.
"Madam," they say to me, "come down to dinner."
"I'm not hungry, thank you," I say and close my eyes again, hugging the stuffed animal that Damian gave me, when I hear how the door is opened abruptly.
"If I say come down, you come down," Fabian shouts at me, he looks at the stuffed animal I have in my arms.
He walks towards me, grabbing my arm and takes me out of the room, the employees see me and I can't feel more embarrassed. He sits me in the dining room.
"Serve her," he tells the cook.
The cook serves me the food and he starts to eat, he sees how I'm dressed and takes a card out of his wallet, leaving it on the table.
"That card is yours for you to buy clothes, my wife shouldn't be walking around like that, much less like you were in the square today."
"I have money," I say without taking the card.
He looks at a man who is standing in the door and makes a sign with his head.
"Everyone retire," that man says.
The cleaners and the cook leave, followed by him, leaving me alone with Fabian.
"I want you away from my brother," he says.
"You can't decide who I talk to and who I don't," I say.
"But not with my brother, and I've already said it, I'll let what happened in the square pass this time, and you're forbidden from accepting things from other men."
He points to the stairs.
"Go to your room," he says.
I don't think twice and go up quickly, when I enter I see my cell phone on the bed with a message.
"Hello sis-in-law, I got your number," Damian says to me by message, "why don't you come to dinner."
"Damian, what university do you go to?" I ask him, and he tells me where he goes.
"I want to get in, could you help me?"
"Of course, I'll go tomorrow and pick you up," he says.
"Yes, let me know," I say, "can you wait for me outside?"
"Don't tell me my brother forbade you from talking to us too," he says.
"Can you wait for me outside?" I put and he replies with an Ok.
I fall asleep and the next morning I hear a knock on the door.
"Madam, Mr. Damian is looking for you," they tell me and I get up quickly, I have missed calls, I have to leave before Fabian realizes.
"I'm coming down," I tell them, "tell him to wait for me outside, please," I shout.
I go into the bathroom, changing into pants and a tank top, I put on my boots and go down with my backpack.
"Damian, let's go outside," I say, when I notice that he is in the dining room.
We go out together, when we arrive at the university he tells me everything, I just hand in my papers and pay with the money I had saved, it's ready.
"Thank you," I say, hugging him.
"You're welcome," he says, smiling at me.
"I have to go," he says.
He shows me the screen of his cell phone and it's a call from his father, we get in the car and when we arrive at the company the driver gets out to open the door.
"They are waiting for both of you," he tells me, and I see Damian making signs that he doesn't know.
We get in the elevator and Damian says to me.
"I don't know what's going on, I swear."
We arrive and I follow Damian who already knows where to go.
"They are waiting for you," the secretary tells us.
The doors are opened for us and Fabian is sitting there with his father.
"My wife and my brother," Fabian says, "I thought I had made it clear yesterday but I see you didn't understand."
I see that he is not talking to me but to Damian.
"What can I say, it's the good thing about being young, and not bitter," he says, "you should have found yourself an old woman who would obey you like Susana your assistant."
"The difference between you and me is that I earn my own money and I'm not a parasite who needs my parents' money, at your age I already had a company and my personal life is none of your business."
"Yes, I know, at my age you were already flying," Damian says, yawning.
"Enough Damian," his father says, "respect your brother and his wife."
"I'm leaving since you're always on Fabian's side," Damian says and turns around, leaving and I follow him.
"You stay," Fabian says.
"I'm leaving," his father says, getting up and leaving the office.
"I see you like to contradict me, don't you?"
He dials on the phone and sits down.
"Move the lady's things to my room," he says, hanging up.
"No, no," I say. "What are you doing?"
"We have to get used to living as a couple in front of society."
"No, my parents said one year and everyone would continue with their lives."
"That was with your sister but yours is different, I want you to go to the apartment and supervise the food."
I see him go back to his desk.
"You're an imbecile," I say.
He gets up annoyed, reaching where I am, pins me against the wall and squeezes my jaw.
"What's wrong with you, bastard?" I shout.
"You asked for it," he says, "give me a son and you're free."
"What?" I say, not understanding.
"Your father didn't read the fine print," he says, "until you give me a son you are free to leave," he smiled since what he is saying is not true.
He grabs my jaw again.
"Bastard or not, you'll know if you want it to be for nine months or forever, you can leave now."
I slam the door, they guide me outside and I go straight to the apartment, I try to enter my room but it's locked.
"I'm sorry madam," the cleaning lady tells me, "the sir ordered to move your things, you will sleep in the sir's room."
They open the door for me, and the bed is huge, like for ten people, I leave my backpack on a table in a corner, my clothes are already hung in the closed, I take out a sundress and go to the bathroom, when I enter I am surprised because inside there is a jacuzzi, I take a quick shower and get dressed inside, I already come out dressed and go down to the dining room.
"Madam, come down to eat, the sir called that you don't wait for him," he tells me.
"Thank you," I say.
I finish eating and go up to the room, I take out my lap-top to know more about the university, I must talk about this topic with my parents, I will go to talk about what Fabian told me, I know it's a lie, with those thoughts I fall asleep, the next morning I get up to the bathroom and there is no trace of Fabian, better for me I think.
"Dianitaaa," I hear them say and it's Damian, "ready for your first day?"
"Yes," I say.
"Where are you going?" I hear them say and it's Fabian coming down the stairs "and don't call her that," he says to Damian, "she's your sister-in-law."
