Kael's voice whispered sweet nothings in Alex's ear, tempting him with promises of power and glory. "Join me, Alex," he whispered. "Together, we can rule Ravenswood."
Alex felt a surge of desire, a longing for the power and prestige that Kael promised. He envisioned himself standing alongside Kael, ruling over Ravenswood with an iron fist.
But as he reached out to take Kael's hand, Lyra's face flashed in his mind. He remembered her laughter, her smile, and her unwavering love. He recalled the way she made him feel – like he was home.
Alex's resolve hardened, and he pulled back from Kael's grasp. "I won't join you," he said, his voice firm. "I won't betray Lyra or the people of Ravenswood."
Kael's face twisted in rage, and he raised his hand to strike Alex. But before he could, a figure appeared out of the shadows – Maggie, the Cove witch.
"You'll not harm him, Kael," she said, her eyes blazing with magic. "He's under my protection now."
Kael snarled, but he knew better than to cross Maggie. He vanished into the night, leaving Alex and Maggie alone.
"What just happened?" Alex asked, still reeling from the encounter.
"You were tempted by the darkness," Maggie replied. "But you resisted. That takes courage, Alex."
Alex felt a surge of pride, but he knew that the battle was far from over. Kael would return, and next time, he wouldn't be so easy to defeat.
Maggie led Alex through the winding streets of Ravenswood, eventually stopping at a small, unassuming cottage on the outskirts of town. The cottage was surrounded by a lush garden, filled with strange and exotic plants that seemed to glow in the fading light.
"This is the Cove," Maggie said, pushing open the creaky front door. "Our home, and our sanctuary."
As they stepped inside, Alex felt a strange energy emanating from the cottage. The air was thick with the scent of herbs and magic, and he could feel the weight of history bearing down upon him.
Maggie led him deeper into the cottage, eventually stopping at a large, ornate mirror that hung on the wall. The mirror seemed to ripple and shimmer, as if it were reflecting an image that didn't quite belong to this world.
"This is the Mirror of the Cove," Maggie said, her eyes gleaming with a knowing light. "It shows us the truth of our hearts, and the secrets that lie within."
As Alex gazed into the mirror, he felt a strange sensation wash over him. The mirror seemed to be pulling him in, drawing him deeper into its depths.
And then, in an instant, the mirror went dark. Alex stumbled backward, gasping for breath.
"What did you see?" Maggie asked, her eyes narrowing with concern.
Alex hesitated, unsure of how to answer. "I saw... darkness," he said finally. "A great, spreading shadow that seemed to be consuming everything in its path."
Maggie's face went pale. "The Shadowfell," she whispered. "It's coming, Alex. And we're running out of time.
