What's happening?

Scene 34

Location: Royal Palace of Theomov

Princess Kiera, after yet another outburst with her maids, was now pacing back and forth with a frustrated expression on her face.

Prince Noah sat on the sofa, arms crossed, watching her with a bemused expression, (thinking) : Where did I get such an impulsive sister? She doesn’t even share the calm traits that Brother and I have.

Irritated by her constant pacing, Noah finally spoke.

Noah : Enough, Kiera. Sit down. Walking back and forth like that won’t solve anything.

Kiera stopped and turned to face her brother, her eyes blazing. She then shifted her attention to a servant girl who was sitting on the floor, trembling.

Kiera (walking toward the servant): I already told you, the only solution is to get rid of her. (She glared at the terrified girl.)

The servant girl was a fragile sight—her brown hair disheveled, freckles covering her pale face. Her deep brown eyes were wide with fear as she sat helplessly on the floor, her hands resting in her lap. Cuts and bruises covered her face and wrists.

Noah (sternly): This is not the solution, Kiera. You’re suggesting I allow someone to die just because she confessed her feelings?

Kiera marched toward her brother, furious.

Kiera: The person she confessed to is my bodyguard ! I won’t let anyone take what’s mine.

Noah remained calm and glanced at a man standing nearby.

Noah: What do you think, Sir Zain?

Zain, who had joined the imperial army after saving Kiera from a kidnapping, had become her bodyguard without the formal pledging ceremony due to her favor.

Sir Zain (calmly): My prince, I believe personal and professional matters should remain separate.

Kiera’s face twisted in betrayal.

Kiera: Zain! How could you say that? She confessed to you!

Zain (calmly): Yes, she did. But before I could even respond, you struck her.

Kiera: You’re taking her side? I can’t believe this! ( glaring at him)

Noah stood up, his patience running thin.

Noah: Stop acting like a child, Kiera! You’ve caused enough of a scene. This drama has been going on since this morning. It has to ends now.

Kiera: SECOND BROTHER !!!

Noah (firmly): Not another word. This girl will no longer stay with you. She’ll be sent back to the harem with the other servants. You will not trouble her again, and she will stay out of your sight.

Noah signaled for Zain to escort the girl out. As they turned toward the door, Kiera’s furious voice rang out, stopping them in their tracks.

Kiera (crying angrily): What am I to this empire, Second Brother?! What am I?!

Noah paused, turning back to his sister.

Noah (softly): You are the only princess.

Kiera (shouting through tears): Then shouldn’t I have the right to decide whether my servant lives or dies?!

Zain, watching quietly, couldn’t help but think back to someone else— "If she were here in this situation, she would have laughed and teased me ". he thought. "She would’ve diffused the situation. If it were her, this wouldn’t have spiraled into such chaos."

Noah stepped closer to Kiera, his voice low and serious.

Noah : Being a princess is a privilege, but it doesn’t give you the right to be selfish. Remember that, Kiera.

With that, Noah left the room, giving Zain a soft tap on the arm as he passed. Zain followed with the trembling servant girl.

Once they were gone, Kiera’s anger exploded. In her rage, she smashed everything around her, breaking everything that had just been replaced after her earlier outburst. The sound of destruction echoed through the palace as she unleashed her frustration, the weight of her brother’s words crushing her pride.

Scene 35

Location: Inside the carriage heading to the royal palace.

Astraea (in mind, looking out the window) – Everything was so good until Prince Noah came inside... (peeping at him)

Originally, Astraea was supposed to travel in the carriage while Kael and Karlus rode on their horses. But Kael stopped the journey just before starting and decided to ride with Astraea inside the carriage.

Since then, no one spoke, and the air grew awkward. Both felt uneasy, yet there was a sense of comfort and happiness with each other, though neither showed it.

After a while of silence, Kael looked at Astraea, who was gazing outside the window. The soft night breeze gently played with her hair, and there was a subtle smile and peace on her face. She seemed to enjoy the night.

Kael (in mind) – She’s so beautiful. I don’t know what I would’ve done if I hadn’t found her there. Thank the Almighty for keeping her safe. Should I start a conversation? will she be scared of me? Should I try... or not?

Caught between indecision, Kael opened his mouth to break the silence.

Kael: Are you uncomfortable anywhere?

Astraea (looking at him, shaking her head slightly): No, Prince Noah. I am perfectly fine.

Kael : How did you end up there ...... if you ... don’t mind me asking?

Astraea smiled softly upon hearing Kael’s question.

Kael (in mind) – She is so pretty.

Astraea : I’m not quite sure. I was on my way to the orphanage because a child was fighting between life and death. I became senseless after taking a certain route, and when I opened my eyes, I was being shipped to Theomov.

Kael (feeling hurt): They beat you?

Astraea : No, they didn’t. They couldn’t bear to ruin a face that could bring them a fortune. And indeed, they bet on me and earned a fortune from you .

Kael : Don’t misunderstand me. I only wanted to help you. I have no ill intentions, and I won’t treat you like a slave. You are free to do anything you wish.

Astraea studied the prince. His gaze was genuine, and the look in his eyes while reassuring her was sincere.

Astraea : I know, Prince. That’s why I wanted to thank you properly, but I didn’t get the chance. So... please allow me now.

As she stood up quickly to bow in gratitude, the carriage hit a rough patch on the road, causing her to lose her balance.

Astraea: Ahhh!

Kael: Girl!

Kael caught Astraea before she could fall.

Kael: Augh!

Astraea: Ah! Ouch!

Astraea had closed her eyes, thinking she was about to fall, but when she opened them, she found herself in the prince’s arms. She glanced at him, realizing he had protected her.

Astraea: My prince! My prince, are you alright?

She sat back down and anxiously examined Kael’s arm and shoulder, slightly injured from catching her.

Astraea: I’m so sorry. It’s my fault—I shouldn’t have stood up. My prince...

Kael, feeling a bit of pain, looked at Astraea with care as she worried over him, blaming herself.

Kael (in mind) – She called me "my prince." Mine... I am hers.

Kael gently placed a hand on her cheek, caressing it, with his thumb softly resting on the side of her lip.

Kael: Don’t worry. Please sit down. I’m alright.

He helped Astraea back to her seat, carefully placing her down.

Kael: So... do you have any name?

Astraea: No, I don’t. ( shaking her head)

Astraea looked down, hiding the fact that Maam Fiona had given her a name.

Kael : Should I give you one?

Astraea : It would be my honor, Prince Noah.

Kael’s brow furrowed slightly.

Kael (in mind) – Again, she’s calling me Noah... Augh!

Kael : Just call me what you called me earlier.

Astraea: My prince?

Kael nodded, satisfied with how easily she understood him.

Kael: Let me think of a name for you.

Astraea: Have you never named anyone before?

Kael (in mind) – Is this a trick question? I know it is—she’s trying to see how capable I am with women. If I tell her the truth, will she find me unattractive? I’ve heard women don’t like inexperienced men. What should I say?

Kael found himself in a dilemma, and Astraea could sense it, so she asked again.

Astraea: My prince? Are you alright?

Her voice snapped Kael out of his thoughts, and he stammered, giving an illogical answer.

Kael : Y-Yes. Yes, I’ve named women before. I’ve had... some women, and I named them, so I know what I’m doing. (breathing out)

Astraea (in mind) – So he’s had women before... I guessed it before —how could a prince like him be without women?

Astraea stayed silent while Kael plunged deep into thought, trying to come up with a name.

As Kael pondered, he recalled an incident from a few days ago... (Flashback)

On the battlefield, near the northern borders of East Turkan, a place called Niholai—a region filled with snow and ice. Even in the heat of summer, the chill of winter persisted. It was a beautiful place surrounded by mountains with a river flowing through the hills.

Kael fought fiercely, taking down a large number of northern soldiers alongside his subordinate, Sir Drovan.

Kael : Look where we’ve ended up. In this fight, we’ve reached the border of East Turkan. If we cross, we’ll be in their empire.

Sir Drovan : Don’t even think about it, Your Highness. It may seem easy, but it’s dangerous.

Kael : Why? Are you scared?

Sir Drovan: Yes. If it were any other continent, I’d gladly assist you. But not East Turkan.

Kael (killing the final man and approaching Drovan): Why? You’ve always been by my side. Why would you leave me now?

Sir Drovan : Because East Turkan has its own boundaries... and a princess.

Kael : I thought you were afraid of warriors, but you’re scared of a princess? You’ve really let me down, Sir Drovan.

Sir Drovan: You’re saying that because you’ve never seen the princess wield a sword. I swear, when she holds her weapon, even nature bends to her will.

Kael : Is she that great?

Sir Drovan (nodding, smiling) : Yes, she is, Your Highness.

Kael: Have you seen her fight?

Sir Drovan : Yes, I was fortunate enough to witness it. When our king sent me as a diplomatic envoy for a peace proposal, I saw her and her way of fighting.

Kael : What does she look like?

Sir Drovan : Majestic, Your Highness. Her intelligence, her speech, her mind—everything about her is different. Despite being in line for the throne, she doesn’t covet it. Her bluish-purple eyes and her kind aura set her apart from all other princesses.

Kael : She sounds impressive from your description, but who knows? Maybe she’s hiding her true self behind a facade.

Sir Drovan : She doesn’t need a facade, Your Highness. No one is innocent in this world, but she’s kind enough to have earned the title of State Mother.

Kael (surprised): The State Mother? How could that be?

Sir Drovan : She think about its people and stands by them no matter what . She visits poor households every night and helps them in the most respectful way possible. Thats whh , People of east Turkan called her State mother .

Kael: I don’t believe it. She’s definitely hiding something.

Sir Drovan : Say what you want , Your Highness, but she is very generous and genuine.

Kael: What’s her name?

Sir Drovan: East Turkan King Arthur's daughter , Crown Princess Artha,

(Flashback ends)

Kael jolted a little in his seat as he remembered.

Kael: Artha! Your name will be Artha.

Astraea, who had been looking down, felt a shiver run down her spine as she heard the name. She looked at him in shock.

Astraea (in mind) – Ho... how... how could he know?
